Traders Launch Statewide Campaign Urging Consumers to Boycott Online Shopping and Support Local Markets

Under the leadership of Uttar Pradesh State President of the Vyapar Ekta Samiti, Shri Vijay Gupta, traders on Friday launched an awareness campaign against online shopping.

The campaign covered major areas, including Mirapur, Ram Bhavan Crossing, Chandlok Crossing, Muthiganj, Katra, Allahpur, Civil Lines, Johnson Ganj, and Leader Road, where banners and flex boards were displayed, urging people to support local markets instead of online platforms.

Shri Vijay Gupta said that small shopkeepers are being severely affected by the growing trend of online business, which has also weakened the personal bond between customers and local traders.

“For small traders, customers are like God. Even when a buyer is short of cash, local shopkeepers ensure that their needs are met. But online platforms offer no such trust, relationship, or support,” he added.

State General Secretary Pramil Kesarwani emphasized that local traders often extend help during late-night emergencies — something online sellers cannot do.

He appealed to citizens to reconsider their choices and purchase goods directly from nearby shops.

“Pan India, Crores of traders are suffering because more and more people are shifting to online shopping,” he warned, stressing that offline purchases sustain livelihoods and keep community trade alive.

The appeal was jointly made by Aarti Kesarwani, Pramod Gupta, Manish Gupta, Rahul Agarwal, Omkar Nath Patel, Brijesh Nishad, Avdhesh Narayan Verma, and Chandra Prakash Kaushal, among others.
