In a heart-wrenching road accident in Raipur district of Chhattisgarh, 13 people — all women and children — lost their lives, while 11 others sustained injuries following a collision between a trailer truck and another truck.
The incident occurred late on Sunday night near Saragaon, along the Raipur-Balodabazar road, under the jurisdiction of Kharora police station.
According to police sources, the victims were part of an extended family hailing from Chataud village. They had traveled to Bansari village to attend a family function.
Tragedy struck on their return journey when the truck they were riding in collided with a heavy trailer near Saragaon. The collision resulted in a devastating loss of lives and left several others wounded.
Authorities confirmed that the deceased included nine women and four children, all of whom died on the spot or shortly after the impact.
The injured passengers were immediately transported to Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital in Raipur for emergency medical treatment. Their conditions vary, and medical teams are providing the required care and support.
Soon after the accident was reported, local police rushed to the site and began rescue operations. They were joined by district administration officials led by Raipur District Collector Gaurav Singh.
The collector confirmed the casualty figures and assured that all necessary measures were being taken to assist the injured and the grieving families.
“The accident has caused immense sorrow. Thirteen people have lost their lives, and 11 others are currently undergoing treatment,” said Collector Singh.
He added that senior officials, including police and medical personnel, were deployed to manage the situation and provide immediate relief.
A case has been registered in connection with the accident, and the police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the collision.
Authorities are examining factors such as vehicle conditions, road safety measures, driver negligence, and visibility at the time of the crash.
This tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over the region, especially in Chataud and Bansari villages, where many of the victims belonged. Local leaders and residents have expressed shock and grief over the sudden loss of lives.
Road accidents continue to be a major concern in India, particularly on highways where heavy vehicles and passenger transport often share poorly maintained roads.
This incident underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws, regular vehicle maintenance, and improved road infrastructure to prevent such heartbreaking occurrences.
As the affected families come to terms with their loss, support from the government and community is being extended to ensure that the victims receive justice and adequate assistance during this difficult time.
