Two Arrested in Prayagraj for Armed Attack and Extortion Attempt on Lawyer
Prayagraj witnessed a shocking incident when Lawyer Arvind Pratap Singh was attacked by a group of miscreants who also attempted to extort money from him.
The Civil Lines police have now arrested two of the named accused, identified as Ankit Kesarwani and Ujjwal Kesarwani, late on Sunday evening. Both have been sent to jail, while searches continue for the remaining accused.
According to officials, the prime accused, Vipin Gupta alias “Allu”, who carries a reward of ₹25,000, is still absconding, along with his associates Mayank and Rahul Yadav.
When and Where the Incident Took Place
The attack occurred on the night of September 1 near Yatrik Chowk, a busy locality in the Civil Lines area of Prayagraj. At the time, Lawyer Arvind Pratap Singh was returning with his colleagues, J.P. Pandey and Parvez Khan.
Sequence of Events
As they reached Yatrik Chowk, a group of men intercepted them and launched an armed assault.
- The attackers opened fire, spreading panic and fear.
- They snatched ₹2,200 in cash from the lawyer.
- They issued threats, demanding ₹10 lakh as extortion money.
Police Action
Based on a written complaint filed by the lawyer, the Civil Lines police registered an FIR on September 2, naming Vipin Gupta alias Allu, Ujjwal Kesarwani, Ankit Kesarwani, Rahul Yadav, and Mayank as the accused.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Civil Lines, Kritika Shukla, confirmed the arrests of Ujjwal and Ankit. She further added that intensive efforts are underway to apprehend the other accused still at large.
