Two Brothers Killed in Separate Police Encounters After Alleged Attack on YouTuber in Ghaziabad

A quiet lane in the Syed Nagli area of Amroha was filled with grief and silence on Thursday as relatives, neighbours and acquaintances gathered to console a father who lost both his sons within two days in separate police encounters.

The modest brick house of Buniyad Ali saw a steady stream of visitors arriving to express sympathy.

The atmosphere was subdued as people stood outside the green door of the single-storey home, whispering about the tragedy that had struck the family.

“The father had only two sons… and now both are gone,” one resident murmured as he passed through the narrow lane.

Brothers Shot in Two Police Encounters

According to police, Zeeshan (22) and his elder brother, Gulfam (35), were killed in separate encounters with the police in Ghaziabad earlier this week.

Zeeshan was shot dead during an encounter in the Loni area of Ghaziabad on March 1, while Gulfam was killed two days later in Indirapuram during another operation by police teams.

Officials said both brothers had a reward of ₹1 lakh each announced for their arrest.

Police claim that during the operations, the accused opened fire at officers while trying to escape, forcing the police to retaliate in self-defence. Both men were later taken to hospitals where doctors declared them dead.

Alleged Attack on YouTuber

The police action followed an incident that took place on February 27, when the two brothers allegedly attacked a YouTuber named Saleem Wastik inside his residence.

Investigators said the attackers used a razor-like cutter to stab him in the abdomen and slash his neck.

Wastik, who reportedly expresses controversial opinions about Islam and has described himself as an “ex-Muslim,” sustained serious injuries in the assault. He is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in New Delhi.

Police said the two brothers were angered by the views expressed in the YouTuber’s videos and had allegedly targeted him for that reason.

Father Questions Police Action

Despite acknowledging that his sons may have committed a crime, their father, Buniyad Al, i said he wished the authorities had allowed the legal system to determine their guilt rather than killing them in encounters.

Sitting quietly in a neighbour’s house, the elderly man struggled to hold back tears.

“The police took away their right to a fair trial,” he said. “If I had known they were involved in such an incident, I would have handed them over to the authorities myself.”

After Zeeshan’s death, Buniyad Ali said he became extremely worried about Gulfam’s safety.

He claimed that he contacted lawyers and even wrote letters to senior police officials and the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, requesting that his second son not be killed.

“All I wanted was that he be arrested and tried in court,” he said.

Background of the Family

Family members said Gulfam had moved away from Amroha in 2013 to work as a carpenter in the National Capital Region, including Ghaziabad, Noida and Delhi.

Later, Zeeshan also joined him there. For some time, my brothers worked as carpenters in a private company before Gulfam opened his own small workshop in Noida’s Sector 120 after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The brothers continued to work in the NCR but frequently travelled back to Amroha to visit their family.

In February, shortly before the alleged attack, Gulfam brought his wife and children to stay with his parents in Amroha during the holy month of Ramzan.

The father said he never suspected his sons could be involved in violent activities.

“They were quiet and respectful boys. I never heard them speak harshly to anyone,” he said.

Gulfam leaves behind a four-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter, raising concerns within the family about who will care for them.

Last Days Before the Incident

Buniyad Ali recalled that both brothers had come home together the day the attack on the YouTuber occurred.

The next day, Zeeshan left for work while Gulfam remained at home for a while longer.

Later on Sunday evening, their mother tried calling Zeeshan several times but received no response.

“At one point, someone answered the phone but did not say anything,” the father said. “We never got to speak to him again.”

That same night, Gulfam quietly left the house around 1 a.m. without informing anyone.

“When we realised he was gone, we tried calling him, but his phone was switched off,” Buniyad Ali said.

Neighbours Express Shock

Residents of the locality described the brothers as calm and polite individuals who had grown up in the area.

A local shopkeeper, Mohammad Fahim, said both had studied at a government school before learning carpentry from their father.

He also recalled meeting Zeeshan at his grocery shop recently.

“He told me he was earning around ₹35,000 a month while working in Delhi and the NCR,” Fahim said.

In 2023, the family had sold a small plot of land in the town’s main market for ₹12 lakh and used the money to arrange marriages for their two daughters.

Video of Attack Surfaces Online

Meanwhile, a video circulating on social media allegedly shows the attack on Saleem Wastik.

In the footage, a man believed to be the YouTuber is sitting inside his office when two individuals wearing helmets enter the room.

One of them is seen taking out a cutter and attacking Wastik, slashing his neck before dragging him to the floor.

The attackers then reportedly struck him several times with broken glass from a table before leaving the scene.

Authorities are examining the video as part of the investigation.

Investigation Continues

Police officials said they are continuing their probe into the sequence of events leading to both the attack and the subsequent encounters.

While the family mourns the loss of their two sons, the case has sparked discussions in the community about due process, justice and the tragic consequences of violence.
