Two Youths from Rajpura Arrested Upon Deportation from the US in Connection with a 2023 Murder Case

In a significant development, two young men from Rajpura, located in the Patiala district of Punjab, were taken into custody upon their arrival at Amritsar airport. The individuals in question, identified as Sandeep Singh, also known as Sunny, and Pradeep Singh, were among the 116 Indian nationals deported from the United States via a C-17 military aircraft late on Saturday night.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nanak Singh, the two accused were wanted in a murder case that had been registered in 2023. The case was initially filed against Sandeep Singh and four others in June 2023 in Rajpura. However, as the investigation progressed, the name of Pradeep Singh was also added to the FIR based on further findings.

Upon receiving confirmation of their deportation, the Punjab Police took swift action. A specialized team, led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Rajpura police station, was dispatched to Amritsar airport on Saturday night to take the duo into custody immediately upon their arrival.

The aircraft that brought them back was a C-17 military transport plane belonging to the United States Air Force. It landed at the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar at approximately 11:35 PM on Saturday. Among the 116 Indian deportees, 65 individuals hailed from Punjab.

This deportation is part of a broader crackdown by the US authorities on illegal immigration. The Trump administration has been enforcing strict measures against undocumented immigrants, resulting in the forced repatriation of multiple groups of Indian nationals. Notably, this was the second large-scale deportation of Indian immigrants by the US in recent weeks, following a previous batch that was sent back on February 5.

Law enforcement authorities have indicated that further investigations into Sandeep Singh and Pradeep Singh’s alleged involvement in the 2023 murder case are ongoing. Their return to India under these circumstances has reignited discussions about illegal immigration, crime, and the legal repercussions faced by individuals seeking to enter foreign countries without proper documentation.

As the police proceed with their inquiries, they are expected to produce the accused before a local court in the coming days. Officials have also hinted that the case may uncover additional links to other accomplices or criminal networks.

The Punjab Police continue to monitor deported individuals with outstanding criminal records, ensuring that those evading justice abroad are brought to account upon their return.
