Two Siblings Die After Falling Into an Uncovered Septic Tank in Fatehpur Village
A quiet evening in Badanpur village turned tragic when two young siblings lost their lives after falling into an uncovered septic tank at an under-construction house in Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur district.
Seven-year-old Shivanshi and her five-year-old brother Shatrughan had accompanied their mother, Sushila, around 6 pm on Tuesday as she went to fetch drinking water from a nearby construction site.
After collecting water, Sushila returned home, unaware that her children had not followed her back.
When she realised they were missing, panic set in. Sushila began searching frantically and alerted neighbours, who joined her in combing the area.
After nearly two hours, she and a few villagers returned to the under-construction property where she had earlier gone for water.
There, they made the devastating discovery: the two children were inside an uncovered septic tank at the site. Police said the tank is approximately 12 feet deep.
The children were immediately pulled out and rushed to a hospital, but doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Vinod Kumar Maurya, Station House Officer of Radha Nagar police station, said the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination.
“No formal complaint has been filed by the family so far,” he added.
According to police, the owners of the under-construction house were present on the first floor at the time Sushila had gone to fetch water. They reportedly told investigators that they did not hear any cries for help.
The grieving family lives in a hut in the village. The children’s father, Rakesh Sharma, works as a labourer at a brick kiln.
The incident has cast a pall of sorrow over the small rural community, raising concerns about safety measures at construction sites.
