In a resolute statement made during his visit to the border district of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to the continuous development of the Union Territory.

Despite recent provocations and disturbances in the region, Shah affirmed that progress in Jammu and Kashmir, initiated in earnest after 2014 under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will neither be derailed nor delayed.

Addressing a gathering that included officials, security personnel, and members of the local community, Shah declared in no uncertain terms that India’s developmental journey in the region is irreversible and that the recent disruption would prove only a temporary hurdle.

He reassured the people that all efforts are being made to swiftly resume and accelerate the projects and welfare measures aimed at improving infrastructure, education, employment, and connectivity in the region.

Reassurance Amid Provocation: Development to Stay the Course

Speaking from one of the most sensitive and strategically significant areas near the India-Pakistan border, the Home Minister sent a clear message of resolve and determination, both to residents of Jammu and Kashmir and to forces inimical to India’s sovereignty.

“Development in Jammu and Kashmir began under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014, and I want to assure the people that this transformative journey will not stop, slow down, or reverse—no matter the provocations or threats we face,” said Shah.

Referring to the recent security disturbances, including cross-border shelling and militant activity, Shah acknowledged that certain hostile elements are attempting to destabilize peace and hinder progress in the region.

However, he firmly stated that any such attempts would be met with a strong, decisive, and uncompromising response from the Government of India.

Tribute to Armed Forces and Administration

The Home Minister took the opportunity to honour the courage and sacrifice of the Indian armed forces, as well as the dedication of civil administrators who have been working on the front lines to maintain order and safeguard citizens in times of conflict.

Paying homage to a senior official who lost his life during a recent military engagement with Pakistan, Shah said, “We salute the bravery of those who stand guard over our borders, and we owe a deep debt of gratitude to those who make the ultimate sacrifice in service of the nation.”

He also commended the administration’s prompt action during recent hostilities, particularly their efforts to evacuate vulnerable civilians to safer locations during heavy shelling, ensuring minimal loss of life and damage to property.

“The efficiency and dedication of our officers during the crisis are commendable and reflect the preparedness and strength of our civil response mechanism,” he added.

A Vision of a Prosperous and Peaceful J&K

Home Minister Shah reiterated the central government’s broader vision for a peaceful, prosperous, and fully integrated Jammu and Kashmir.

He emphasized that development initiatives in the region are not limited to infrastructure alone but also encompass social upliftment, youth empowerment, investment in tourism, and enhanced security to support a stable and thriving society.

He highlighted numerous initiatives already underway, ranging from road and rail connectivity to education reforms and employment schemes, that aim to empower the local population and bring the region on par with the rest of the country.

Conclusion: Firm Resolve in the Face of Adversity

In conclusion, Amit Shah’s address from Poonch served as both a reassurance to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and a warning to adversarial forces. His message was clear:

The Indian government remains steadfast in its development agenda and will not be intimidated by any disruptive forces. With the full support of the armed forces, civil authorities, and the local population, the government aims to build a new chapter for Jammu and Kashmir—one defined by peace, prosperity, and unity with the rest of India.
