UP Board to Deploy Signal Jammers at Select Exam Centres for the First Time to Ensure Cheating-Free High School and Intermediate Examinations

Prayagraj: During the High School and Intermediate examinations beginning on February 18, the Uttar Pradesh Board of Secondary Education will, for the first time, introduce the use of signal jammers.

In line with the state government’s objective of conducting malpractice-free examinations, the board has decided to install jammers on a pilot basis at 20 out of the total 8,033 examination centres across the state.

With the installation of jammers, question papers or any other examination material will not be able to be transmitted outside the exam centres through WhatsApp or other social media platforms.

If the pilot project proves successful, the use of jammers will be expanded to more centres in future examinations.

Particularly at highly sensitive and sensitive centres, jammers are expected to play a significant role in maintaining the integrity and fairness of the examination process.

Schools in Prayagraj are also included among these 20 centres. However, the exact locations where the jammers will be installed are being kept confidential.

At present, the Union Public Service Commission uses jammers at examination centres for all its exams, including the Civil Services Examination. Similarly, the Staff Selection Commission also installs jammers for all its computer-based examinations.

Reserved Question Paper Sets for All Subjects

From the 2026 examinations onward, the UP Board plans to ensure the availability of reserved (backup) sets of question papers for all subjects at every district and examination centre.

Last year, the board introduced reserved sets for major subjects at all districts and centres. This initiative is now being expanded to cover every subject to strengthen exam management further and prevent disruptions.

Examination Schedule and Result Timeline

The UP Board examinations will be conducted from February 18 to March 12 in two shifts each day.

Both High School and Intermediate exams will be completed over 15 working days each.

The results of the board examinations are expected to be announced in the last week of April.

Staff to Be Exempted from SIR Duties

In view of the UP Board examinations, the Secondary Education Department has requested the government to, as far as possible, exempt its officers and staff from SIR (Special Intensive Revision of voter lists) duties to ensure smooth conduct of the exams.
