The Uttar Pradesh government has officially approved a 20 per cent horizontal reservation for former Agniveers in recruitment to various positions within the state police force.

State Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna announced the decision during a press briefing following a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow.

“This is a significant step,” Khanna said. Under the Agnipath scheme, the Government of India had initiated an ambitious recruitment drive where youth aged between 17.5 and 21.5 years served in the armed forces for four years with financial and skill-based incentives.

Today, the state cabinet has decided to extend 20 per cent horizontal reservation to these ex-Agniveers in state police jobs.”

In addition to the reservation, the state has also approved a three-year age relaxation for former Agniveers applying for police roles.

The move is aimed at supporting the reintegration of Agniveers into civilian life and recognising their service and training as valuable assets to the state’s law enforcement system.

Earlier in the day, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak praised the broader developmental vision under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, stating, “India has made remarkable progress and is now the fourth-largest economy in the world.

We are on track to realise the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by 2047.

The reservation policy reflects Uttar Pradesh’s efforts to align with national defence initiatives while strengthening its police force with disciplined, trained, and experienced personnel.
