UP Sets Up Coordinated Crackdown Framework to Identify and Deport Illegal Immigrants; Detention Centres in Every Division

Soon after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued a strong directive to intensify action against illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingya in Uttar Pradesh, the state government on Friday announced the creation of a structured and coordinated framework to identify, verify, and prevent the entry of illegal immigrants into the state.

According to an official statement, the government emphasised that the initiative is neither emotional nor reactionary, but a firm and strategic exercise aimed at strengthening national security and ensuring law and order.

The statement reiterated the Chief Minister’s stance, saying:
“National security is non-negotiable. Illegal infiltration will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”

Verification Drive Exposes Organised Infiltration Networks

The state informed that the ongoing extensive verification campaign has uncovered an organised network of infiltrators operating across several districts in UP.

A large number of suspected Bangladeshis and Rohingya have already been identified, and the UP Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has executed multiple operations, arresting several infiltrators and revealing long-standing support systems enabling such entry and settlement.

The exercise is not only identifying individuals but also exposing the structural layers involved in facilitating illegal immigration for years.

Detention Centres to Be Set Up in Every Division

To ensure a lawful and regulated process, the government has decided to establish detention centres in each division of the state. Illegal immigrants detained during the process will be kept in these centres until completion of the relevant legal and deportation procedures.

The deportation process is being coordinated with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), while district magistrates have been instructed to submit daily reports to the Home Department to ensure real-time monitoring and transparency.

The government highlighted that earlier efforts regarding tracking, arresting, and deporting illegal immigrants were scattered and inefficient.

The new model aims to integrate all related steps under a uniform and streamlined system.

Legal Action Under the Foreigners Act, 1946

The government also clarified that strict action is being taken under the Foreigners Act, 1946, where the burden of proof rests with the individual. All infiltrators will have full access to legal remedies to ensure that the campaign is strong but constitutionally sound.

Instructions to Identify Immigrants Working in Municipal Bodies

A day before issuing the broader directive, CM Adityanath instructed all 17 municipal corporations to prepare detailed lists of Rohingya and Bangladeshi nationals working as sanitation workers or holding any other employment and submit them to divisional commissioners and police inspector generals. These officials will be responsible for initiating legal action and ensuring deportation.
