UP to Launch ‘One District, One Cuisine’ Drive as Yogi Adityanath Announces ODOP 2.0 Expansion to Boost Identity, Exports & Rural Economy

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday announced that the state will soon implement a new initiative titled ‘One District, One Cuisine’ (ODOC), aimed at giving every district a distinct identity based on its unique culinary heritage.

The initiative will operate alongside the widely acclaimed ‘One District, One Product’ (ODOP) programme, which the Chief Minister said is now set to enter an advanced phase—ODOP 2.0.

During a meeting with senior officials, Adityanath stressed that just as ODOP has become a defining pillar of Brand UP, the next phase will significantly enhance traditional industries, self-employment opportunities, and exports.

“ODOP 2.0 will transform traditional products into the backbone of large-scale markets and global trade.

Every region in Uttar Pradesh is rich in culinary culture—some are famous for their halwa, others for dalmoth, and many for centuries-old dishes that deserve national and international recognition,” the Chief Minister said.

Focus on Mapping Culinary Heritage & Upgrading Standards

The Chief Minister directed officials to identify and map the signature cuisine of each district and said that the initiative must be supported with improvements in quality, food safety, branding, packaging, and marketing.

He noted that ODOP and ODOC together would pave the path “from local to global,” positioning Uttar Pradesh as a leading centre of traditional goods and authentic cuisine.

Boost to Rural Jobs & Agriculture

The government highlighted that ODOC will also significantly support rural employment because increased demand for raw materials—like millets, wheat, pulses, spices, milk, vegetables, and oils—will open new income channels for farmers and rural producers.

Greater Market Access & Retail Integration

Yogi Adityanath instructed that ODOP products must be introduced beyond local markets and integrated with major retail chains, malls, and modern trade platforms.
He called for dedicated ODOP sections at Unity Malls (PM Ekta Malls) being developed across several states, ensuring that UP’s products receive premium visibility nationwide.

Officials reported that:
  • Over 1.25 lakh toolkits have been distributed,
  • Loans exceeding ₹6,000 crore have been approved,
  • More than 8,000 entrepreneurs have received direct marketing support,
  • 30 Common Facility Centres (CFCs) have been sanctioned,
  • 44 ODOP products now have GI (Geographical Indication) tags, and
  • ODOP products contribute to over 50% of the state’s total exports and have earned a national award for the second consecutive year.
ODOP 2.0 to Prioritise Top Performers

The Chief Minister said the second phase will prioritise entrepreneurs who excelled in ODOP’s first round to help them expand and scale up. The key focus areas under ODOP 2.0 will include:

Technology upgrade

Improved packaging

Quality enhancement

Expanded global market reach

He added that certification through reputed national institutions will enhance brand credibility and help Uttar Pradesh products establish an independent identity in international markets.
