Greater Noida: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s long-envisioned plan to create a world-class entertainment and film production hub is rapidly transforming from an ambitious idea into a landmark reality.
The much-awaited International Film City, coming up in Sector-21 of Greater Noida along the Yamuna Expressway, is now on the brink of its formal groundbreaking ceremony.
Spread across a massive 1,000 acres, the project will be developed in three carefully planned phases over eight years.
The first phase, covering 230 acres, involves an investment of approximately ₹1,510 crore, laying the foundation for what is expected to become one of Asia’s most advanced film and entertainment ecosystems.
A Strategic Public–Private Partnership
The International Film City is a flagship collaboration between the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) and Bayview Projects LLP, led by veteran filmmaker Boney Kapoor.
This public–private partnership brings together administrative support, infrastructure planning, and deep industry expertise.
The vision is expansive and future-oriented:
- World-class indoor and outdoor shooting studios
- High-end sound stages and virtual production facilities
- Advanced post-production and VFX units
- A dedicated film institute for training actors, technicians, and creative professionals
- Convention spaces, film museums, and tourism-centric attractions
The objective is clear—to position Uttar Pradesh as a global destination for cinema, OTT content, television production, advertising, gaming, and digital media.
Rapid Progress on the Ground
By the end of 2025, the project will have crossed several decisive milestones, reflecting the government’s intent to fast-track execution:
- Master Plan Approval: Granted on January 30, 2025
- Concession Agreement: Signed between YEIDA and Bayview Projects LLP on June 27, 2024
- Site Handover: Right-of-way transferred on February 27, 2025
On the ground, land levelling is already in progress, while internal roads, drainage planning, and site development work are nearing completion.
Officials confirm that the preparatory phase is almost complete, paving the way for full-scale construction.
Economic Engine and Cultural Powerhouse
The International Film City is expected to become a major economic catalyst for Uttar Pradesh.
Estimates suggest it could generate around five lakh direct and indirect jobs, spanning acting, direction, production, set design, costume, sound engineering, hospitality, logistics, tourism, and education.
Equally significant is its strategic location. The film city’s proximity to the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar will offer unmatched global connectivity, enabling international crews, equipment, and production houses to operate seamlessly.
This logistical advantage is likely to reduce dependence on foreign shooting destinations and bring large-scale international projects to Indian soil.
Beyond economics, the project carries cultural weight. It offers a platform to showcase Uttar Pradesh’s heritage, folklore, literature, and diverse landscapes to global audiences, reinforcing India’s soft power through cinema.
