US and Israeli Strikes Intensify Across Iran as Regional Tensions Spread to Gulf and Lebanon
The conflict unfolding across the Middle East escalated sharply on Monday as American fighter aircraft reportedly carried out attacks on military installations near the Chabahar Free Trade Zone in southeastern Iran.
According to media reports citing Persian-language broadcasts, the strikes targeted facilities located behind the economic zone in the country’s Sistan and Baluchestan Province, a region situated close to the border with Pakistan.
Witnesses reportedly heard a series of powerful detonations following the aerial assault, suggesting that several installations in the area may have been hit.
Washington Pushes Allies on Strait of Hormuz Security
Amid the expanding confrontation involving Israel and Iran, United States President Donald Trump has been urging allied nations to assist in reopening and securing the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz.
The narrow waterway, which links the Persian Gulf with global shipping lanes, carries a substantial portion of the world’s oil supplies.
Any disruption to this route could have far-reaching consequences for international energy markets and maritime trade.
Trump warned that failure by allied countries to cooperate in safeguarding the corridor could have serious implications for the future cohesion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation.
The US leader also held discussions with Keir Starmer regarding measures to restore normal navigation through the strait and reduce the ongoing disruption to global shipping networks.
Strikes Reported in Multiple Iranian Cities
Meanwhile, Israeli and American forces reportedly launched fresh aerial assaults on several locations within Iran.
Cities including Tehran, Hamadan and Isfahan were among those said to have been struck as the military campaign widened across the country.
Israeli authorities indicated that the operation was continuing and suggested that numerous additional objectives inside Iran remain on their target list.
Israeli military spokesperson Effie Defrin said the armed forces had identified thousands of potential targets and that the strikes had now expanded into central and western regions of Iran.
Tehran Rejects Claims of Negotiation Efforts
Iran, however, dismissed assertions that it had sought diplomatic engagement to end the hostilities.
In remarks made during an interview with CBS News, Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi, rejected statements by the US president suggesting that Tehran was interested in ceasefire negotiations.
Araghchi stated that Iran had not approached Washington requesting a halt to the fighting and added that, following the recent attacks, his government saw no justification for entering into discussions with the United States.
Regional Fallout Spreads Beyond Iran
The conflict is increasingly spilling into neighbouring countries across the region.
Rockets and unmanned aerial vehicles reportedly targeted the Baghdad International Airport in Iraq, where the United States maintains a diplomatic mission and military presence.
At the same time, air defence systems across several Gulf states — including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia — reported intercepting incoming drones and missiles believed to be linked to the escalating confrontation.
Fighting Intensifies Along Israel-Lebanon Front
Elsewhere in the region, Israeli forces launched additional strikes in southern Lebanon while also deploying armoured units and military personnel near the border area.
The escalation has led to heavy casualties, with reports indicating that the death toll in Lebanon since the outbreak of hostilities has climbed to around 850 people.
Conflict Entering a Wider Phase
Analysts warn that the expanding theatre of military operations — stretching from Iran to Iraq, the Gulf and Lebanon — suggests the conflict may be entering a broader and more volatile phase.
With multiple actors involved and key energy routes under threat, the confrontation now carries serious implications not only for regional stability but also for global economic and security dynamics.
