Uttar Pradesh Government Rolls Out Mega Security Measures for Kanwar Yatra; FIR Registered Against Congress Leader Ajay Rai for Public Disruption in Varanasi
In a determined push to ensure the peaceful and incident-free conduct of the annual #KanwarYatra, the Uttar Pradesh government has implemented one of the most comprehensive security operations in recent years.
Over 50,000 security personnel have been deployed across the yatra routes, which span multiple districts and major highways.
These deployments are being complemented by the use of advanced surveillance systems, including CCTV networks, real-time analytics, and anti-drone as well as tethered-drone technologies to detect and neutralize any aerial threats that may pose risks to pilgrims or law enforcement.
The government has also established a centralised control room for #24x7RealTimeMonitoring. This facility is linked with district control rooms, ensuring seamless coordination, quicker response times, and uninterrupted surveillance throughout the pilgrimage period.
This extensive security apparatus, officials said, was designed under the direct guidance of #ChiefMinisterYogiAdityanath, who has previously overseen similar high-level operations during events of national and religious significance—most notably the #MahaKumbhMela2025 in Prayagraj and the #RamMandirInauguration2024 in Ayodhya.
The Kanwar Yatra, which draws lakhs of Shiva devotees annually, often presents logistical challenges and the potential for law and order disturbances. The state’s approach this year reflects a proactive and technology-led strategy to minimize risks and maximize public safety.
In a parallel development on the political front, #UttarPradeshCongress chief Ajay Rai, along with nine associates, has been booked in #Varanasi for their alleged involvement in rioting, blocking public roads, and damaging public and private property.
The case, registered on Friday, has been filed under several sections of the #BharatiyaNyayaSanhita, including Sections 285, 326(B), 126(2), and 191(2).
As per the First Information Report (FIR), the police were alerted that a group led by Ajay Rai had occupied the Englishia Line intersection, a crucial thoroughfare in the city. Their unauthorized gathering caused a major traffic jam, with even ambulances being obstructed.
The FIR further stated that the group took out a public procession without obtaining official permission, resulting in the disruption of public order.
Law enforcement authorities confirmed that they have begun legal proceedings against the accused, emphasizing that disruptive acts—especially those that jeopardize the public’s movement and emergency services—will be dealt with strictly, regardless of political affiliations.
