Uttar Pradesh to Launch ₹2,000-Crore AI Mission in Smaller Cities; 65 Data Labs Planned

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday announced the implementation of an ambitious Artificial Intelligence (AI) Mission in the state, marking a major push to integrate advanced technology into public healthcare and governance.
Inaugurating the AI and Health Innovation Conference, the Chief Minister said that projects worth nearly ₹2,000 crore would be rolled out in a phased manner over the next three years under the AI Mission.
He emphasised that Uttar Pradesh would emerge as a frontrunner in the use of AI for healthcare services.
As part of this initiative, 62 new AI data labs will be established across the state, taking the total number to 65. Importantly, all these labs will be set up in smaller cities, ensuring that the benefits of cutting-edge technology reach beyond major urban centres.
The Chief Minister said that AI is transforming governance from being reactive to proactive. He noted that when technology is aligned with empathy, policy is driven by innovation, and governance is built on trust, development becomes inclusive and the future more secure.
Highlighting the role of AI in healthcare, he said that the use of artificial intelligence can make health policies more precise and effective.
AI-enabled systems can help collect and analyse data related to pandemics and vector-borne diseases, and by using feedback from such data, governments can ensure better decision-making, better policies, and better outcomes.
He further outlined the state’s growing health and technology ecosystem, stating that work is underway on a Medical Device Park and a Pharma Park.
In addition, a Meditech Centre of Excellence is being developed in Lucknow, while Gautam Buddh Nagar is set to host an AI and innovation-based entrepreneurship centre.
A Centre of Excellence at IIT Kanpur is also in progress, and Lucknow is being developed as an AI City.
Technology delivering benefits to the last mile:
The Chief Minister said that over the past 11 years, under the skilled leadership of the Prime Minister, the country has witnessed technology being translated into real, on-ground impact.
In Uttar Pradesh, too, for the past eight years, the double-engine government has successfully used modern technology to deliver the vision of governance, policies, and welfare schemes to people standing at the very last rung of society.
He underlined that AI must always be guided by humans, and not the other way around.
Even after doing good work, he said, there is always scope to do better—and the government is continuously working in that direction.
Given the large population of a state like Uttar Pradesh, he added, there remains significant potential to further improve healthcare services, and the government is committed to achieving that goal.
