Uttar Pradesh to Launch 800 New Stay Homes in Prayagraj – Citizens Encouraged to Register Vacant Rooms
Prayagraj : If you have vacant rooms in your house and wish to make the best use of them, here comes a golden opportunity. Following government directives, preparations are underway to launch 800 new stay-home units across the Prayagraj district.
To participate in the scheme, homeowners will need to register with the Tourism Department.
On 18 September, a special workshop organized by the Tourism Department will be held at Hotel Ilavart, where interested individuals can register on the spot.
Officials explained that this initiative is being undertaken in light of the growing number of tourists arriving in Prayagraj after the Kumbh.
At present, while hotels exist, their tariffs are very high, and dharmashalas (pilgrim lodges) often lack proper facilities. To address this gap, the government has permitted the opening of stay homes that will provide affordable, safe, and homely accommodation.
Categories and Registration Fees
The stay-at-home will be registered under two categories:
- Gold Category: Registration fee of ₹3,000 for three years.
- Silver Category: Registration fee of ₹2,000 for three years.
In addition, setting up a dormitory with at least 12 beds has been made mandatory.
For rural areas, the registration fee is just ₹100, a provision also applicable to those opting for dormitory facilities.
Mandatory Conditions for Stay Homes
Regional Tourism Officer Aparajita Singh shared that the government has prescribed certain conditions for approval of stay homes:
- The homeowner must reside in the property where stay-home facilities are offered.
- At least three CCTV cameras must be installed for security purposes.
- Meal arrangements, along with breakfast, must be made available for guests.
The upcoming workshop on 18 September will provide full details of the scheme. A registration camp will also be set up at the venue for immediate enrollment.
Oversight and Monitoring
A committee has been constituted to supervise and regulate the scheme. Its members include:
- Chairperson: The District Magistrate (DM) or their nominated representative.
- Members: The Superintendent of Police (SP) or representative, concerned tax officer, municipal body representative (or in rural areas, a district/gram panchayat representative), and the District Fire Officer.
- Member-Secretary: A senior official from the district Tourism Department.
Authorities emphasized that this initiative is among the most ambitious plans of the Uttar Pradesh government, especially for Prayagraj, known as the Kumbh city, where lakhs of devotees and visitors gather regularly.
The scheme aims not only to boost tourism but also to empower local citizens by allowing them to directly benefit from the inflow of visitors.
