Victoria Memorial-Inspired Pandal to Bring Devotional Splendor to Tagore Town Durga Puja in Prayagraj

This year, the sacred festival of Durga Puja in Prayagraj’s Tagore Town is set to radiate an aura of devotion and grandeur like never before.

The Tagore Town Barwari Durga Puja Committee, celebrating its 84th year of festivities, has chosen to recreate the majestic Victoria Memorial of Kolkata as the theme for its pandal, blending cultural magnificence with divine worship.

The grand structure, rising on the grounds of Karnalganj Inter College, is being crafted as a monumental offering to the Goddess.

Measuring 100 feet in length and 60 feet in both height and width, the pandal is envisioned as a divine palace where devotees can bow before Maa Durga in an atmosphere of both reverence and awe.

To ensure authenticity and artistic finesse, 20 skilled artisans from Kolkata have been working diligently since August 10, shaping the structure with plywood frames that will soon be adorned with intricate paintwork, giving it the ethereal look of the Victoria Memorial.

Inside this temple-like creation, a 10-foot idol of Maa Durga will be enshrined as the central deity, radiating power and maternal grace.

Alongside her, the divine family—Lord Ganesha, Goddess Lakshmi, Goddess Saraswati, and Lord Kartikeya—will also be installed, each idol adorned with ornaments and weapons brought specially from Kolkata.

These idols, resplendent in traditional attire, will symbolize the eternal triumph of good over evil and the blessings of prosperity, wisdom, and courage.

Committee treasurer Arjun Chaudhary shared that in previous years, the pandals were themed on sacred sites such as Badrinath and Kedarnath, evoking deep religious devotion among devotees.

This year, under the leadership of President Arun Dev, the committee decided to present the Victoria Memorial design, not merely as an architectural marvel but as a symbolic reminder of Kolkata’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage closely associated with Durga Puja.

The pandal is expected to be ready by September 25, well in time for the sacred rituals to commence from Shashthi.

Over the following days, devotees will gather in large numbers to offer prayers, participate in aarti, bhajans, and cultural programs, and immerse themselves in the divine atmosphere.

A special highlight of the celebrations will be the Dandiya Night on Navami, where devotional fervor will merge with joyous cultural expression, bringing the community together in faith and festivity.

This year’s Durga Puja in Tagore Town is not just a festival—it is a spiritual journey. It promises to offer devotees the chance to witness divine artistry, celebrate age-old traditions, and surrender themselves at the feet of Maa Durga, seeking her blessings for peace, prosperity, and protection.
