Woman commits suicide with her ten year old daughter another woman flings herself before train with six year old daughter in Prayagraj
Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh – A heart-wrenching incident was reported from Nawanbans village under Nawabganj police station limits, where a 35-year-old woman named Nirmala and her 10-year-old daughter ended their lives by consuming poison on Wednesday evening.
Both were rushed to SRN Hospital in Prayagraj, but despite medical efforts, they succumbed during treatment.
Background of the Case
For nearly a decade, Nirmala had been living with her elderly mother. She had been struggling with mental health challenges and often remained under psychological distress. The family alleged that financial difficulties and her daughter’s long-term illness deepened her despair.
Neighbors revealed that Nirmala, once employed at a private school as a midwife around five years ago, had quit her work due to worsening health conditions. Since then, her family’s income has been insufficient to meet expenses.
A Family’s Struggles and Silent Suffering
According to villagers, Nirmala frequently expressed her helplessness about not being able to bear the burden of treatment costs for her sick daughter. Community members also hinted that domestic disputes and stress within her marital home might have aggravated her condition.
Her brother-in-law, Gulshan, said that she had been under immense mental strain, which often led to heated altercations. Locals further alleged that domestic violence and lack of support pushed her into a deeper state of depression.
Tragically, unable to bear the combined weight of poverty, her daughter’s illness, and strained personal relations, she took the extreme step.
Shocking Discovery on Railway Tracks in Soraon, Prayagraj
In a separate but equally shocking incident, in Soron, Prayagraj, police discovered the body of a woman along with her six-year-old daughter on the railway tracks near Paddu Lal ka Pura village on Thursday afternoon.
Authorities believe it to be a case of suicide by jumping in front of a train, though further investigation is underway. Both bodies were recovered and sent for postmortem. Villagers speculated that ongoing family disputes and hardships may have been behind this drastic step.
A Broader Reflection
These two tragedies underscore a larger issue—mental health struggles, economic distress, and lack of family or community support are silently claiming lives in rural India.
Women, especially those battling poverty and child care responsibilities, are often left without adequate mental health assistance or social security. Experts stress the urgent need for:
- Accessible counseling and mental health services in rural areas
- Greater awareness of domestic violence and support systems
- Financial aid and healthcare coverage for families with chronically ill children
