Yogi Adityanath’s Global Push: UP Courts Japan and Singapore for Mega Industrial Cities and Next-Gen Infrastructure

Determined to leave no stone unturned in his pursuit of development and prosperity, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is embarking on a high-profile visit to Singapore and Japan to position Uttar Pradesh as India’s next industrial powerhouse.

With bold proposals for a dedicated “Japan City” and “Singapore City” near Greater Noida, and a symbolic ride on Japan’s futuristic Maglev train, the message is clear — Uttar Pradesh is ready to compete on the global stage.

A Vision That Crosses Borders

Leading a delegation of senior officials, the Chief Minister will depart for Singapore on February 22 for a three-day visit before heading to Japan on February 24.

He is scheduled to return on the night of February 27. The tour is being seen as a strategic outreach to attract billions in investments and deepen trade ties with two of Asia’s most advanced economies.

At the heart of the visit lies a carefully crafted pitch: Uttar Pradesh as a model state driven by infrastructure, technology, and industry — a place where international investors can seamlessly establish cutting-edge manufacturing units, industrial parks, and smart urban ecosystems.

The state’s Infrastructure & Industrial Development Department has been tasked with preparing “attractive proposals” aimed at securing large-scale investments and enhancing the trade footprint of Japan and Singapore in UP.

Japan City and Singapore City Near Greater Noida

A central highlight of the proposals is the earmarking of 500 acres each for two integrated industrial cities — one inspired by Japan and the other by Singapore — in Sector 5A and Sector 7 of Greater Noida under the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).

Officials confirmed that land has already been identified and acquisition plans prepared. Both sectors are designated as multipurpose industrial areas under YEIDA’s masterplan, with:

  • At least 70% of the land is reserved for industrial use
  • Residential development capped at 12%
  • Commercial use limited to 13%
  • Institutional facilities allocated a minimum of 5%

The projects are proposed to be executed under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model, ensuring streamlined development.

These cities are envisioned as integrated industrial ecosystems, potentially shaped in line with the planning philosophies of Tokyo and Singapore — combining manufacturing, smart infrastructure, and modern urban design.

High-Speed Inspiration: The Maglev Experience

In Japan, CM Yogi will undertake a 100-kilometre trial journey on the country’s advanced Maglev (magnetic levitation) train, covering 50 km each way.

The train, which floats above tracks using magnetic force, represents the pinnacle of high-speed rail technology.

The ride is more than ceremonial. It signals Uttar Pradesh’s ambition to explore futuristic mobility solutions and expand its modern transportation network.

With the Centre proposing seven high-speed rail corridors in this year’s Union Budget — including Delhi–Varanasi and Varanasi–Siliguri — the state stands at the forefront of India’s evolving rail infrastructure.

Building on Earlier Engagements

This visit builds on earlier outreach efforts. In July last year, a UP delegation led by the Chief Minister’s Adviser Awanish Kumar Awasthi, along with senior officials from Invest UP and UPNEDA, engaged Japanese stakeholders in discussions on advanced manufacturing, clean energy, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and emerging technologies.

Subsequent interactions focused on collaboration in novel drug development, diagnostics, medical devices, and clinical research.

The delegation highlighted UP’s proactive industrial policies, including its Pharma and Medical Device Park initiative, Semiconductor Policy, and the FDI & FCI Policy 2023.

A Model State in the Making

Observers note that CM Yogi’s development agenda transcends geographical boundaries. His strategy reflects an unwavering commitment to transform Uttar Pradesh from a traditionally agrarian and populous state into a globally competitive industrial and technological hub.

From expressways and defense corridors to data centers and industrial parks, the state government has consistently pushed for infrastructure-led growth.

Now, with international industrial cities on the horizon, Uttar Pradesh aims to create an ecosystem where global corporations find not just opportunity, but confidence.

By aligning governance, infrastructure, and global partnerships, Yogi Adityanath appears intent on turning Uttar Pradesh into a benchmark — a state that other regions may look to emulate, and a destination where international enterprises see no hesitation in investing, innovating, and building the future.
