Madhya Pradesh Tragedy: Two Sisters and Four Children Die in Separate Well Incidents
SHIVPURI, Madhya Pradesh: A devastating incident unfolded in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district, where two sisters allegedly died by suicide in separate incidents within a span of six hours, resulting in the deaths of four children as well.
Police said on Thursday that the circumstances surrounding the deaths were being investigated.
The first incident occurred on Wednesday when a 35-year-old woman, who was eight months pregnant, allegedly jumped into a well with her four children at a farm.
The woman and her six-year-old son died, while her three daughters managed to escape from the well and alert other family members.
According to police, villagers subsequently retrieved the bodies of the woman and her son.
An initial account of the incident indicated that the family had been facing emotional and financial difficulties following the death of the woman’s husband in a road accident around six weeks earlier.
Ravi Chauhan, the officer in charge of the local police station, said the woman had been struggling emotionally since her husband’s death.
Investigators were examining the circumstances that preceded the incident.
The woman’s 14-year-old daughter, who survived, reportedly told police that her mother had been deeply concerned about how the family would manage financially and cope with the future after losing its principal support.
Elder sister allegedly dies with her three children
The tragedy took a further turn when the woman’s 40-year-old sister allegedly entered another well with her three children after learning about the younger sister’s death.
The children included two daughters, aged 14 and 11, and a six-year-old son. All four died.
Jitendra Chandeliya, the officer in charge of Kolaras police station, said the elder sister had gone to her agricultural land after receiving news of the earlier incident.
When she had not returned home by approximately 6 pm, relatives became concerned and began looking for her.
The search led family members to a well on the farmland, where they noticed footwear nearby and subsequently spotted a child’s body. They immediately informed the police, Chandeliya said.
A police team reached the location and recovered the bodies later on Wednesday night.
Police probe circumstances behind deaths
Investigators have yet to establish what prompted the elder sister to take the alleged extreme step.
Police said relatives had described the two women as being very close, making it important for investigators to establish the sequence of events and the circumstances surrounding the second incident.
Chandeliya said the investigation was continuing to determine what led to the deaths. Police are examining the available information to establish the circumstances behind both incidents.
The three girls who survived the first incident are central to understanding what happened before the younger sister entered the well. Authorities have not announced a conclusion regarding the reasons behind the deaths.
The back-to-back incidents have left the families and local community devastated, as investigators work to piece together the events that unfolded within a few hours in Shivpuri district.

शिवपुरी: मध्य प्रदेश के शिवपुरी जिले में बुधवार को एक दर्दनाक घटनाक्रम सामने आया, जहां दो बहनों की करीब छह घंटे के अंतराल में अलग-अलग घटनाओं में मौत हो गई। इन घटनाओं में चार बच्चों की भी जान चली गई। पुलिस ने गुरुवार को बताया कि दोनों मामलों की परिस्थितियों का पता लगाने के लिए जांच की जा रही है।
पहली घटना में 35 वर्षीय आठ माह की गर्भवती महिला अपने चार बच्चों के साथ खेत पर स्थित एक कुएं में कूद गई। इस घटना में महिला और उसके छह वर्षीय बेटे की मौत हो गई, जबकि उसकी तीन बेटियां किसी तरह अपनी जान बचाने में सफल रहीं। इसके बाद उन्होंने परिजनों को घटना की जानकारी दी।
पुलिस के मुताबिक, ग्रामीणों ने महिला और उसके बेटे को कुएं से बाहर निकाला, लेकिन तब तक दोनों की मौत हो चुकी थी। शुरुआती जानकारी के अनुसार, महिला के पति की करीब डेढ़ महीने पहले सड़क दुर्घटना में मौत हो गई थी। इसके बाद से परिवार भावनात्मक परेशानी और आर्थिक कठिनाइयों का सामना कर रहा था।
स्थानीय थाने के प्रभारी रवि चौहान ने बताया कि पति की मौत के बाद महिला मानसिक तनाव से गुजर रही थी। पुलिस यह पता लगाने का प्रयास कर रही है कि घटना से पहले किन परिस्थितियों ने इस दुखद स्थिति को जन्म दिया।
महिला की 14 वर्षीय बेटी, जो घटना में बच गई, ने पुलिस को बताया कि उसके पिता की मृत्यु के बाद उसकी मां परिवार के भविष्य और आर्थिक स्थिति को लेकर चिंतित रहती थी।
छोटी बहन की मौत की खबर मिलने के बाद खेत पहुंची बड़ी बहन
पहली घटना के बाद परिवार पर दुखों का पहाड़ टूट पड़ा। पुलिस के अनुसार, 40 वर्षीय बड़ी बहन को जब अपनी छोटी बहन की मौत की जानकारी मिली, तो वह अपने खेत की ओर चली गई। आरोप है कि बाद में वह अपने तीन बच्चों के साथ कुएं में कूद गई।
मृत बच्चों में 14 और 11 वर्ष की दो बेटियां तथा छह साल का एक बेटा शामिल थे। इस दूसरी घटना में महिला और उसके तीनों बच्चों की मौत हो गई।
कोलारस थाने के प्रभारी जितेंद्र चंदेलिया ने बताया कि महिला के शाम करीब छह बजे तक घर नहीं लौटने पर परिजनों को चिंता हुई। इसके बाद परिवार के सदस्यों ने उसकी तलाश शुरू की।
खेत पर पहुंचने के बाद परिजनों को कुएं के पास जूते-चप्पल दिखाई दिए। इसी दौरान उन्हें एक बच्चे का शव नजर आया, जिसके बाद तत्काल पुलिस को सूचना दी गई।
सूचना मिलने पर पुलिस टीम मौके पर पहुंची और बुधवार देर रात कुएं से शवों को बाहर निकलवाया।
बड़ी बहन की मौत के कारणों का पता लगाने में जुटी पुलिस
पुलिस अभी यह स्पष्ट नहीं कर पाई है कि बड़ी बहन ने कथित तौर पर इतना बड़ा कदम क्यों उठाया। अधिकारियों के अनुसार, परिजनों ने दोनों बहनों के बीच गहरे लगाव की बात कही है। ऐसे में जांच के दौरान दूसरी घटना से पहले की परिस्थितियों और घटनाक्रम को समझने का प्रयास किया जा रहा है।
थाना प्रभारी जितेंद्र चंदेलिया ने बताया कि पुलिस दोनों घटनाओं से जुड़े तथ्यों की जांच कर रही है। अधिकारियों का कहना है कि मौतों के पीछे की परिस्थितियों का पता लगाने के लिए उपलब्ध जानकारी का विश्लेषण किया जा रहा है।
पहली घटना में बची तीनों बच्चियों से मिली जानकारी भी घटनाक्रम को समझने में महत्वपूर्ण हो सकती है। हालांकि, पुलिस ने अभी तक दोनों घटनाओं के कारणों को लेकर कोई अंतिम निष्कर्ष नहीं दिया है।
