Prayagraj: In a heartbreaking incident that has left an entire neighbourhood in mourning, a young man lost his life after being unable to bear the shock of his mother’s death, spending the night clinging to her lifeless body.
The tragedy unfolded in Ramnagar market, where 70-year-old Kamla Devi, wife of late Kamtanath Kesari, had been living for years in a rented room with her sons, Mohit and Deepak.
Originally from the Kapsahai locality of Sirsa Nagar Panchayat in the Meja police station area, the family had made Ramnagar their home for livelihood.
On Sunday evening, Kamla Devi’s health suddenly deteriorated. Despite efforts by the family, she passed away, plunging the household into grief. As news of her death spread, cries and wails echoed through the home.
Her 27-year-old son Mohit Kesari was shattered by the loss.
Overcome with sorrow, he collapsed beside his mother’s body, resting his head on her chest and clutching her tightly.
Through the long night, he wept uncontrollably, refusing to leave her side. Family members later said that amid his tears, no one noticed when he finally fell silent.
On Monday morning, when relatives tried to wake Mohit, they were met with another devastating shock—he had passed away in his sleep, still holding onto his mother’s body.
The young man, unable to endure the pain of separation, had succumbed to grief itself.
The double tragedy has cast a pall of sorrow over the area, leaving neighbours and relatives stunned by the profound bond between mother and son, and the cruel finality of their shared fate.
