A faculty member at Varshney Degree College in Aligarh has been booked by the police for allegedly sending obscene and inappropriate messages to a female student, according to official reports released on Sunday.

The incident has triggered widespread unrest among the student community, prompting protests and calls for swift action from several student organizations affiliated with the BJP.

The controversy had been simmering for two days before coming to light, as students began voicing their anger over what they described as both the faculty member’s misconduct and the alleged inaction by the authorities.

Members of the BJP Yuva Morcha and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) joined forces to stage demonstrations within the college premises, demanding immediate and stern action against the accused, identified as Shajruddin, a teacher at the institution.

According to police sources and college officials, the female student who is at the center of the controversy submitted a formal complaint to the police, outlining the nature of the obscene messages she received.

The matter quickly escalated when it was revealed that students had been aware of the issue but were upset over what they perceived to be official negligence and a slow response from law enforcement.

Student protesters rallied at the college campus, alleging that the police had failed to act promptly on the victim’s complaint, despite the sensitive and serious nature of the allegations.

Some students accused the authorities of trying to shield the accused, a charge that further inflamed tensions on the campus.

One of the most vocal leaders of the protest, Amit Goswami, a representative of the BJP Yuva Morcha, issued a stern warning to both college authorities and local law enforcement.

“If the accused is not arrested within the next 24 hours, our organization will launch a mass agitation across the city. We demand immediate justice for the victim,” Goswami declared.

In response to the growing pressure and rising student outrage, the college administration announced a disciplinary measure late Saturday evening.

The accused faculty member, Shajruddin, has been suspended from his duties for two months, pending the outcome of an internal investigation. College officials confirmed that a special committee would be constituted to look into the matter and determine further disciplinary action based on the findings.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a formal First Information Report (FIR) against the accused at the Gandhi Park police station. Law enforcement authorities confirmed that an investigation is underway.

Additional Superintendent of Police (City), M.S. Pathak, told reporters that the police had already seized the mobile phone of the accused as part of the ongoing probe.

“The device will be sent for forensic analysis, and further action will be based on the digital evidence retrieved, including call records, messages, and any other relevant data,” Pathak stated.

The incident has not only drawn attention to the alleged misconduct but also sparked a broader conversation around the safety and dignity of students, especially women, on college campuses.

With the investigation still in its early stages, both the college administration and local police have assured the public that the matter is being taken seriously and that justice will be delivered without delay.
