Allahabad University Uncovers Major Admission Fraud; Full-Scale Investigation Ordered Amid Suspected Racket

4

In a significant development, Allahabad University has launched an extensive investigation into its 2024 admission cycle after authorities discovered multiple cases where students who already held undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from the university managed to secure fresh admissions using misleading information and recycled documents.

The administration is now conducting a detailed audit of every admission file submitted this year, following alarming indications that the scam may be part of an organised network involved in producing fake documents or enabling fraudulent admission routes.

How the Scam Was Exposed

The irregularities surfaced during routine verification, when university officials detected that several newly admitted students—through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)—had already completed degrees previously from Allahabad University but concealed this information.

Shockingly, some individuals even submitted the same Transfer Certificate (TC) they used years earlier for their first enrolment, presenting photocopies during the new admission process to bypass scrutiny.

A thorough examination of documents submitted by all students admitted this year is underway. Several teams have been constituted to scrutinise each admission file.”

Said University PRO Jaya Kapoor, confirming that 3–4 cases have already been officially identified, with more suspected.

Authorities fear that this might be only the tip of the iceberg.

High-Level Emergency Meeting

Taking serious cognisance, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sangita Srivastava convened an urgent meeting with:

Divisional Commissioner Saumya Agrawal

Commissioner of Police Joginder Kumar

District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma

Senior university officials and security teams

The meeting discussed possibilities of:

A coordinated scam involving external agencies

Fake-document rackets operating in or around the university

Attempts at impersonation during admission procedures

A special committee has now been assigned to investigate cases of proxy candidates allegedly appearing on behalf of applicants.

Police to Act After Formal Report

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Prayagraj, Manish Kumar Shandilya, said that the university’s internal inquiry is in progress and that the police will initiate formal action once they receive the investigation findings.

Security Alert from Centre Adds Context

PRO Kapoor disclosed that a prior warning from the Union Education Ministry had alerted the university to potential serious security threats, advising stronger identity and admission verification measures.

The current scandal is being analysed in light of that warning, indicating a possible link to larger disruptive elements.

Why the Fraud Matters

Admission officials emphasised that:

Misrepresenting academic qualifications,

Using fake or recycled documents, and

Occupying seats despite already holding advanced degrees

They are serious criminal violations, as they deny deserving students fair access to higher education and misuse public academic resources.

With a current campus population of 25,000 students, 500 teachers and 2,000 staff, the incident has raised larger questions about security loopholes and systemic vulnerabilities.

University’s Next Steps

Verification of every admission document

Identification and cancellation of fraudulent admissions

Possible arrests and prosecution

Strengthened digital identity and verification protocols

Officials said the university will share its final report with police and relevant authorities, and strict action is promised against all implicated individuals.
