Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan is showing promising signs of recovery after undergoing surgery to repair a potentially life-threatening injury caused by an intruder’s knife attack. Doctors at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital provided an update on Friday morning, stating that the actor is being moved out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and into a special room following significant improvement in his condition.
Dr. Nitin Dange, chief neurosurgeon at Lilavati Hospital, shared the positive news with reporters. “Saif is doing excellently. We even got him to walk. His pain is minimal, and he has been shifted from the ICU to a special room for continued care,” he said.
Dr. Dange explained the gravity of the injury, noting that the knife had been lodged dangerously close to the actor’s spine. “The injury could have been catastrophic had the knife penetrated just 2mm deeper,” he said, adding that the medical team is carefully monitoring Saif’s progress to ensure no complications arise.
The doctors estimate that Saif may be discharged from the hospital in a few days, but have advised him to take at least a week of complete rest at home. “The risk of infection near the spinal cord remains, so precautions are necessary,” Dr. Dange said. He added that the fluid oozing from the wound has stopped, which is a positive development in the healing process.
The 54-year-old actor sustained his injuries during a violent encounter with an intruder at his upscale apartment in Bandra, a western suburb of Mumbai, early on Thursday. The assailant repeatedly stabbed Saif, inflicting six wounds in total, with four causing significant concern for the medical team. These included two injuries to his hand, one on his neck, and the most severe near his spinal cord.
Despite the serious nature of the attack, Saif displayed remarkable composure and strength. According to hospital staff, he arrived at Lilavati Hospital around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday and declined the use of a stretcher, walking into the facility on his own.
The Mumbai police have detained a suspect in connection with the attack, who is currently being interrogated at the Bandra police station. Investigators are working to determine the motive behind the attack, but details remain unclear at this stage.
Access to Saif’s special room at the hospital has been restricted to ensure his privacy and allow him to recover without disturbance. It is not yet known when he will be in a position to provide a formal statement to the police regarding the incident.
Doctors are optimistic about Saif’s recovery but emphasize the importance of adhering to medical advice to avoid complications. “While he is stable now, the possibility of infection cannot be ignored. Rest and careful observation will be crucial in the coming days,” said Dr. Dange.
The attack has sent shockwaves through the Bollywood community and Saif’s fans worldwide, who are eagerly awaiting updates on his condition. As the actor begins his journey to recovery, the incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of public figures.
