PRAYAGRAJ: Anger spilled out on the streets on Sunday after the brutal murder of a retired army personnel.
The family members, along with a large crowd of locals, placed the body at the Mohani crossing and staged a road blockade.
They demanded a swift investigation into the case and immediate arrest of the culprits involved.
The protest led to heavy traffic congestion, with long queues of vehicles piling up for nearly an hour.
It was only after Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Pushkar Verma assured prompt action that the agitated people were persuaded to disperse.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem report confirmed that the victim had been attacked three times on the head with a sharp-edged weapon, which proved fatal.
The deceased was identified as 60-year-old Amar Singh, a native of Amina village in Pashchim Sharira, Kaushambi district.
A retired soldier, he had recently built a house in Kasari Masari Chakia under Dhoomanganj police limits, where he lived with his family.
Singh had also purchased a plot near the Mohani crossing under the Airport police station jurisdiction, where borewell drilling work was underway.
On Saturday morning, Amar Singh had gone to supervise the boring work at his plot.
While there, he stepped into a nearby under-construction house to fetch water.
It was inside that structure that he was later discovered lying unconscious on the floor.
His head bore deep injury marks, and his mobile phone was found shattered beside him.
Following a complaint lodged by his elder son, Pankaj Singh, the Airport police registered a case against unknown assailants and sent the body for autopsy.
On Sunday, after the post-mortem, family members and dozens of locals brought the body to the Mohani crossing and blocked the road in protest.
Although local police from the Airport station reached the spot, the protestors refused to budge until senior officers arrived.
Later, ADCP Pushkar Verma and ACP Dhoomanganj, Ajendra Yadav, arrived at the scene and assured the grieving family that the case would be solved at the earliest.
Even after twenty-four hours of investigation, however, police remain empty-handed.
The absence of CCTV cameras near the crime scene has hampered efforts to identify the culprits, or even to establish a motive for the crime.
Questioning of the victim’s relatives and local residents has also yielded no significant leads so far.
Amar Singh’s wife, Shanti Devi, and sons, Pankaj Singh and Nitin Singh, have been devastated by the shocking murder.
The family remains in deep distress, unable to comprehend who could have committed such a crime or why.
Pankaj Singh told reporters that his father had no known enmity with anyone, making the incident even more mysterious and painful.
Pankaj works as an assistant teacher at the Sarai Akil higher secondary school, while his younger brother, Nitin Singh, is employed in Kaushambi.
The killing of a respected ex-serviceman has not only plunged his family into grief but also sparked outrage in the community, which now awaits answers from law enforcement.
