J&K Doctor-Couple Under Probe for Alleged Online Radical Outreach as Police Intensify Crackdown

Jammu and Kashmir’s Counter-Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) has launched an investigation into a south Kashmir doctor and his wife over allegations that they used their social and professional standing to influence vulnerable individuals online, potentially steering them toward extremist narratives.

On Tuesday, CIK teams conducted coordinated searches across Srinagar, Kulgam, and Anantnag after securing warrants from a designated NIA court.

The action is part of a broader clampdown on suspected social media networks believed to be operating in close coordination with handlers across the border.

According to investigators, such networks are increasingly being used to amplify terrorist and separatist messaging in subtle but strategic ways.

Sources said the couple was detained during the raids for questioning. They have not been formally arrested, but their online activities — including purported glorification of militants and messaging that could contribute to radicalisation — are now under scrutiny.

Police officials allege that the couple leveraged their credibility in society to disseminate “misleading and provocative content,” aimed at disturbing public order and manipulating impressionable audiences.

During the raids, CIK teams recovered multiple digital devices and materials considered relevant to the case, including five mobile phones, SIM cards, a tablet, and several documents.

Officials say the digital footprint collected will play a key role in determining the extent of the alleged activity.

Preliminary findings suggest the doctor, a government employee, may have misused his position to engage in unlawful online conduct, while his wife is suspected of influencing local women through targeted online and offline interactions.

According to the CIK, her possible links to the banned organisation Dukhtaran-e-Milat are also being examined.

Officials noted that the case underscores an emerging trend — individuals using respectable professional identities as a cover while attempting to push divisive or disruptive agendas in the Valley.
