Tragic Plane Crash in Alaska Claims Ten Lives
Meanwhile, a separate aviation tragedy unfolded in Alaska. A small regional aircraft that went missing on February 7 has been located, but, unfortunately, there are no survivors. The US Coast Guard confirmed on Friday that all ten people onboard, including the pilot and nine passengers, perished in the crash.
The ill-fated commuter aircraft, operated by Bering Air, was found approximately 34 miles southeast of Nome. USCG Lt. Commander Mike Salerno reported that rescue swimmers identified three bodies inside the wreckage, while the remaining seven are believed to be trapped within but remain inaccessible at this time.
The aircraft, a Cessna, was flying from Unalakleet to Nome—two cities in western Alaska separated by the Norton Sound inlet. The Coast Guard confirmed that the plane’s last known position was approximately 12 miles offshore before it vanished from radar.
