Another Tragedy in Prayagraj: Speeding Car Mows Down Bikers on Chaufatka ROB; One Killed, Three Injured in Hit-and-Run Horror

A tragic hit-and-run incident unfolded on Wednesday morning at the Chaufatka Rail Overbridge (ROB) in Prayagraj, barely ten days after the city was shaken by the horrifying Rajrooppur accident in which a speeding Jaguar car crushed six people.

This fresh accident has once again stirred panic among residents, raising questions about rising reckless driving and road safety in the city.

According to eyewitnesses, around 8:45 am, a high-speed car bearing a Delhi registration number was heading towards Dhoomanganj.

While crossing the bridge, the driver allegedly lost control and rammed into three motorcycles and a scooter from behind with tremendous force.

Before shocked commuters could react or identify the driver, the car sped away from the scene. The impact was so severe that the two-wheelers were left badly mangled.

Police teams rushed to the spot and immediately sent the injured to Colvin Hospital.

Despite doctors’ efforts, 32-year-old Rohit Kushwaha, a resident of Preet Nagar, succumbed to his injuries.

Three others — 36-year-old Vidya Bhushan of Karchana, 52-year-old Sanjay Agrahari of Himmatganj, and 40-year-old Manju of Karbala — sustained injuries in the crash.

While Sanjay suffered multiple fractures and remains admitted, the other two injured individuals were discharged after receiving primary treatment.

Heartbroken family members of the victims rushed to the hospital upon receiving the news.

Police have recovered a broken number plate from the site, believed to have fallen from the offending vehicle.

The registration reportedly belongs to Talwant Singh, son of Darbari Singh, a resident of Chittaranjan Park in Delhi.

However, officers said that the registered phone number could not be reached. CCTV footage along the Dhoomanganj–Kanpur road is now being examined to trace the vehicle’s movement and identify the driver.

Cantt Police Station in-charge Sunil Kumar confirmed that efforts are underway to locate the accused.

Victim Rohit: A hardworking youth

Rohit, the younger son of Ram Prakash, ran a DJ sound system business and also operated a railway ticket vending outlet at Chheoki station.

His family shared that he had stepped out that morning to arrange for a welding mechanic when tragedy struck.

His elder brother, Rahul Kushwaha, who is the media in-charge of the BJP city unit, reached the hospital in grief.

Sanjay was returning after dropping off his daughters.

In another painful detail, injured victim Sanjay Agrahari was returning home after dropping his two young daughters, 12-year-old Jemika and 10-year-old Omika, at school when the speeding car hit him.

Sanjay, who works at a ration shop, lost consciousness after being flung onto the road in the collision. His wife Neetu and other relatives are attending to him at the hospital.

This incident has reignited public outrage and fear, with residents demanding strict enforcement against rash driving and stronger surveillance on city roads to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
