CM Yogi Adityanath Champions Swadeshi Movement: Inaugurates UP Trade Show in Gorakhpur, Highlights ₹11,200 Crore Success of Noida Trade Expo
“Buying Swadeshi Keeps India’s Wealth Within the Nation,” Says Chief Minister; Government to Provide Bigger Platform for Indigenous Products
GORAKHPUR: Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday inaugurated the UP Trade Show – Swadeshi Mela at Champa Devi Park in Gorakhpur, calling upon citizens to embrace indigenous products and contribute to India’s economic self-reliance.
Emphasizing the national significance of Swadeshi, the Chief Minister said that promoting local goods not only strengthens the country’s artisans and craftsmen but also ensures that India’s money remains within its borders.
“When we buy Swadeshi, we respect the hard work of our craftsmen and artisans,” Yogi Adityanath said. “The profits generated from Swadeshi products contribute directly to the nation’s development.
On the other hand, the profits from foreign goods often flow outside our borders and, at times, are even used against our own interests — in activities like terrorism, extremism, and separatism.”
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister stressed that spending on locally made goods helps realize the dream of a Developed India and a Developed Uttar Pradesh.
He urged everyone to advance Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Vocal for Local’ and ‘Local for Global’, saying that collective resolve can eliminate every obstacle on the path to self-reliance.
Recalling earlier practices, Yogi pointed out that before 2017, even idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha used during Diwali celebrations were imported from China, a nation that does not share India’s spiritual beliefs.
“Today, thanks to the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, terracotta idols made from Gorakhpur’s own soil are available in the market.
Terracotta has also received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, allowing these products to be sold globally with authenticity and pride,” he said.
He noted that Uttar Pradesh now holds the distinction of having the highest number of GI-tagged products in India, symbolizing the state’s cultural richness and manufacturing diversity.
Highlighting industrial progress, the Chief Minister added that UP has become India’s largest center for electronics manufacturing, producing nearly 60 percent of the country’s mobile phones.
Turning to business and investment, Yogi said that Uttar Pradesh’s world-class infrastructure, ease of doing business, and strong law and order have together created a secure and investor-friendly environment.
Wherever there is robust infrastructure, business-friendly governance, and a sense of safety, global investors naturally follow,” he said. “Today, Uttar Pradesh stands as a shining example of these strengths — attracting wide-ranging investments from across India and abroad.”
Government’s Future Vision for Swadeshi Promotion
Yogi Adityanath also announced that the state government will provide an even bigger platform for Swadeshi products in the future, ensuring wider market access for local artisans and entrepreneurs.
He said that GST reforms have infused fresh energy into the marketplace, reviving trade activity and consumer confidence.
There is renewed movement in the markets after the GST reforms,” he said. “Whatever you buy, buy Swadeshi. Whatever you gift, let it be Swadeshi.”
The Chief Minister informed that Swadeshi Melas are now being organized across every district of Uttar Pradesh to encourage local enterprise.
He cited the success of the UP Trade Show held in Greater Noida from September 25 to 29, where over 2,250 entrepreneurs showcased their products, achieving ₹11,200 crore in business transactions.
“This grand success reflects the new face of Uttar Pradesh — a state that has emerged as a hub of entrepreneurship and industrial innovation,”
Yogi said. He emphasized that such initiatives are not just exhibitions but symbols of a self-reliant and progressive India, bridging the gap between local talent and global opportunity.
The Chief Minister concluded by reaffirming his government’s commitment to empower local producers through policy reforms, marketing support, and trade opportunities, transforming Swadeshi into a mainstream economic and cultural movement.
