In a strongly worded address delivered in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria district on Tuesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath lashed out at the Samajwadi Party (SP) leadership over their controversial remarks on the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chief Minister described the comments made by certain SP leaders as “shameful” and likened them to statements often echoed by hostile foreign entities like Pakistan.

Yogi Adityanath was speaking during a massive public gathering organised to mark the inauguration of 341 development projects in the district, collectively valued at ₹676 crore.

He also laid the foundation stone for an additional 160 projects, signaling the government’s continuing focus on infrastructure-led growth and regional development.

During his address, the Chief Minister expressed his anguish and dismay over what he called an “insensitive and divisive” interpretation of the terrorist attack that led to the killing of Shubham Dwivedi, a victim from Uttar Pradesh.

He rebuked SP leaders for reducing a national tragedy to a communal issue, particularly criticising a statement that allegedly described the incident as a case of “Hindu killing Hindu.”

Yogi labelled such remarks not only as factually and morally wrong but also deeply damaging to national unity and public morale.

Taking a broader political swipe, the Chief Minister accused both the Samajwadi Party and the Congress of perpetuating a legacy of caste-based politics and appeasement-driven governance.

He alleged that such tactics have historically weakened India’s internal harmony and posed a threat to national security.

“These parties have always prioritised their dynastic interests over the needs of the people,” Yogi said, referring to the SP’s leadership, which he claimed was obsessed with familial dominance and lacked a vision for holistic development.

He further claimed that when these parties were in power, they failed to deliver on key indicators like employment, public health, and law and order.

“Instead of progress, what Uttar Pradesh received under their rule was rampant unemployment, poverty, and a rising tide of crime and insecurity,” the CM said.

On a more positive note, Yogi Adityanath used the occasion to distribute a range of benefits under various state and central government welfare schemes. These included:

  • Distribution of loan cheques under the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Yojana, aimed at supporting youth entrepreneurship.
  • Disbursal of ₹7.87 crore to members of self-help groups (SHGs), promoting financial empowerment at the grassroots.
  • Handing over of home keys under the CM Rural Housing Scheme, giving shelter and dignity to rural families.
  • Distribution of tractors and land lease papers to 37 beneficiaries under the Patta Yojana, which supports landless farmers.
  • Delivery of pension cheques for the differently-abled and destitute citizens, ensuring social security for vulnerable groups.

Reflecting on Deoria’s transformation since 2017, the Chief Minister recalled how the district once struggled with severe public health crises, particularly encephalitis, which claimed the lives of thousands of children annually.

He credited the change in this grim reality to coordinated public health efforts and infrastructural development under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Deoria has undergone a remarkable transformation. From being a hotspot for riots and disease, it is now fast emerging as a symbol of modern infrastructure and prosperity.

The district is witnessing a renaissance, marked by new highways, expanded railway links, metro corridors, and world-class expressways,” Yogi Adityanath said.

He went on to highlight specific infrastructure upgrades underway in the region. Among them is a four-lane highway connecting Deoria to Gorakhpur, which he said will ensure direct and hassle-free connectivity to the national capital and other metropolitan centers.

Similarly, the Gorakhpur–Ballia route is also being expanded to four lanes, while roads linking Deoria to towns such as Kasia and Padrauna are being widened for smoother regional mobility.

According to him, these road projects will drastically reduce travel times to cities like Delhi and Shamli, thereby boosting economic opportunities and quality of life.

The Chief Minister also took the opportunity to spotlight the state’s commitment to healthcare and education in the region.

He said that Deoria is now home to new medical and nursing colleges, which not only improve access to quality healthcare but also generate employment and educational prospects for local youth.

Yogi Adityanath underscored that the benefits of development are reaching the most marginalised and historically neglected communities.

Groups such as the Musahar and Vantangiya communities—among the poorest in the state—are being systematically integrated into welfare programs and economic schemes to uplift their living standards and break the cycle of poverty.

In conclusion, the Chief Minister reiterated his government’s focus on inclusive development, national unity, and cultural pride.

He appealed to the public to reject divisive narratives and remain united in the face of external and internal threats. “Under PM Modi’s leadership, Uttar Pradesh is writing a new chapter of growth, security, and dignity for all,” he declared.
