“Delhi Banega Khalistan” — Freed Khalistani Militant Issues Threat; Government on Alert
Inderjeet Singh Gosal — a key coordinator of the banned Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) campaign — walked out on bail in Canada and immediately issued a chilling proclamation: he intends to push forward a so‑called “Khalistan referendum” aimed at carving out territory in India.
In a video released from just outside the prison gates, Gosal declared, “India, I’m out; to support Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, to organise the Khalistan referendum on November 23, 2025. Delhi banega Khalistan.”
Gosal’s public vow came minutes after his release on multiple firearms‑related charges. Canadian authorities arrested him earlier this month following a vehicle stop near Oshawa, Ontario. Police say the stop led to weapons‑related charges against three people. News agencies report Gosal was held on several firearms offences before being granted bail.
In tandem, SFJ’s designated leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun — already wanted in India and designated as a terrorist by New Delhi — issued a brazen taunt to India’s national security apparatus and its National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, daring Indian authorities to attempt extradition or arrest on foreign soil.
Pannun’s message was deliberately provocative, a public dare that amounts to an open challenge to recognised state institutions.
What this signals: intent, funding allegations, and the international angle
Security analysts and Indian officials view these developments as part of a transnational, well‑orchestrated campaign — not isolated bravado. Indian political leaders and agencies have repeatedly alleged that Khalistani outfits like SFJ receive external support and exploit diasporic networks and foreign safe havens to raise funds, recruit foot soldiers, spread propaganda, and organise referenda that seek to foment separatism and communal unrest in India.
The BJP and other interlocutors have publicly accused Pannun and his associates of acting as proxies for hostile foreign elements; investigations into funding streams and overseas networks are ongoing.
Arrests, bail, and legal fallout
Gosal’s rapid release on bail after firearms charges has stoked alarm in New Delhi and prompted renewed calls for coordinated international action.
Canada’s law‑enforcement and intelligence channels have been pressed to cooperate more closely with Indian authorities following a string of incidents linked to extremist elements operating from abroad.
New Delhi has been pursuing diplomatic and operational engagement with Western partners to curb cross‑border terror financing and violent extremism.
India’s posture: clear, uncompromising, and lawful
The Government of India has publicly and privately signalled that it will not tolerate any effort to destabilise the country’s sovereignty or foment violence on Indian soil. Officials stress that they are fully aware of the separatists’ plans, propaganda channels, and the overseas networks that enable them.
- Investigations into funding and logistics are active, and any link to external state or non‑state actors will be exposed.
- New Delhi will use all lawful diplomatic, intelligence, and legal tools available — including extradition requests, criminal prosecution, sanctions, and international cooperation — to ensure those who threaten India’s unity are brought to justice.
A direct warning to separatists and their backers
Let there be no doubt: loud promises made from foreign soil will not translate into action inside India. The state is watching, collecting evidence, and coordinating with foreign partners to track funding, communication, social‑media operations, and the movement of personnel.
Individuals who spread terror, issue threats, or try to destabilise civic life will face legal consequences — internationally where possible, and inside India where jurisdiction allows. The government has made clear that neither bluster nor bail will provide immunity from accountability.
The wider stakes
These episodes are more than headline‑grabbing videos. They are tests of international cooperation against transnational extremism and of domestic resilience against divisive narratives.
India urges democratic nations to treat any campaign that promotes separatism, communal hatred, or violence — even if dressed as “referenda” — with the seriousness they deserve.
