In an unprecedented move, the Delhi government is gearing up to host a grand two-day Diwali extravaganza this weekend, transforming the Capital into a radiant spectacle for the first time on such a scale.

The celebrations, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, will feature two lakh diyas (earthen lamps) adorning the iconic Kartavya Path, alongside mesmerizing drone and laser shows narrating the story of Diwali.

Officials said the innovative displays will highlight the legend of Lord Ram, tracing his exile, triumph over adversity, and return to Ayodhya, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness.

“This year, Delhi aims not only to celebrate Diwali traditionally but also to bring the festival’s story to life through technology, making it engaging for all generations,” said a senior government official.

The Delhi Tourism Department is actively coordinating the event, ensuring that every element—from diyas to drone choreography—reflects a seamless experience.

In addition, major roundabouts and landmarks, including Signature Bridge and ITO Chowk, will be decorated with vibrant fairy lights and lamps, promising a citywide glow.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and other ministers are expected to participate in the festivities, underscoring the government’s commitment to making this Delhi Diwali celebration unique.

Preparations for the drone-laser shows have been completed, with only administrative and security clearances pending. Authorities are finalizing approvals for drone usage to guarantee a smooth and safe spectacle.

The initiative appears inspired by the Deepotsav in Ayodhya, which over the past eight years has become a globally recognized Diwali festival, setting world records with massive installations of diyas along the Saryu River and around the city’s prominent temples.

Delhi’s decision to host such a large-scale event reflects a desire to showcase the Capital as a hub of cultural pride and festive grandeur, linking tradition with modern technological flair.

To ensure a seamless experience, the Delhi government has issued special instructions to all departments to maintain cleanliness, safety, and smooth traffic flow.

Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma has emphasized the importance of functional streetlights in markets, colonies, temples, and public spaces so that the city remains bright and welcoming throughout the festival.

With meticulous planning and innovative displays, this Diwali promises to make Delhi shine like never before, potentially setting a benchmark for future urban celebrations of India’s most cherished festival.
