Eight Arrested in Kasganj for Alleged Gang Rape of Minor Girl, Police Launch Manhunt for Two More
Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh — In a deeply disturbing case, police in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district have arrested eight men in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 16-year-old girl. The incident reportedly took place on April 10, when the girl was sitting near a canal in an agricultural field along with her fiancé.
According to the Kasganj police, the young couple was alone at the time of the incident when a group of men approached them on motorcycles.
As per the survivor’s account, the men initially began harassing and making lewd remarks at them before the situation escalated into a violent assault.
The girl alleged in her formal complaint that the men forcibly took her away to a secluded spot nearby, where they sexually assaulted her. During the assault, the group also allegedly threatened her fiancé and snatched money from him.
Following the girl’s complaint, the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against 10 individuals under the newly introduced Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), invoking serious charges including gang rape, extortion, and criminal intimidation.
Providing details on the swift response, Kasganj Superintendent of Police Ankita Sharma confirmed that police teams immediately launched an intensive investigation once the complaint was filed.
“The minor girl was sitting with her fiancé near a canal when some people, noticing them alone, approached and subjected her to gang rape. They also robbed her fiancé of some cash during the crime,” Sharma stated.
Further elaborating on the case, Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Bhartiya informed the media that the accused were tracked down through coordinated efforts by a joint team of the Crime Branch and multiple units of the Kasganj district police.
“Five of the accused were arrested on Saturday, while three more were apprehended on Sunday. Our teams are actively working to trace the remaining two suspects, who are currently on the run. We are confident they will be in custody soon,” Bhartiya said.
The horrifying incident, which reportedly took place around 2:30 pm on April 10, has sent shockwaves across the region and sparked public outrage, with residents demanding strict action and justice for the victim.
The police have assured that the investigation will be conducted thoroughly and in a time-bound manner and that all necessary legal procedures — including medical examinations, forensic analysis, and statements under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code — are being followed to ensure a strong case against the accused.
Authorities have also stated that counseling and support have been arranged for the young survivor and her family to help them cope with the trauma of the assault.
The incident has once again raised concerns over women’s safety in rural areas and the vulnerability of young women in isolated locations.
Senior police officials emphasized that efforts are being stepped up to patrol such areas more actively to prevent any recurrence of such crimes.
The search for the remaining two accused continues, with law enforcement assuring the public that they will be brought to justice soon.
