Friends Injured in Red Fort Blast Recall Harrowing Moments of Survival
Two friends from Rohtas Nagar set out on Monday evening to visit the Gauri Shankar Temple in Chandni Chowk, unaware that their peaceful pilgrimage would turn into a life-altering nightmare.
Riding together on a motorcycle, Ankush Sharma and Rahul Kaushik followed GT Road toward the Red Fort. As they stopped at a traffic signal, a powerful explosion erupted in a car on the adjacent road.
The blast threw both young men and their motorcycle several feet away. Their helmets shattered from the impact.
Ankush, who was riding pillion, suffered severe facial burns; his left eye was critically damaged and later lost.
Rahul, who was driving, sustained a fractured leg and burn injuries to his hair.
For a few shocking seconds, both friends were disoriented. When they regained consciousness, they were surrounded by horrifying scenes—scattered human remains and chaos all around. The shockwave temporarily impaired their hearing.
Shortly after, a disturbing video emerged, showing Ankush drenched in blood, desperately pleading for help.
An e-rickshaw driver rushed Ankush to Lok Nayak Hospital, while Rahul managed to call his family from the scene.
He was later admitted to GTB Hospital and discharged late Monday night.
Rahul recounted the ordeal with a trembling voice, saying he had narrowly escaped death.
The two live in the same building—on different floors—and often visit the Gauri Shankar Temple together on Mondays, Ankush’s weekly day off from his job at a jewelry shop in Karol Bagh.
Recalling the moment, Rahul said they were riding happily when the explosion shattered the quiet evening on November 10.
The blast stunned him; his helmet flew off, and when his senses returned, he saw Ankush’s face badly burned, blood streaming down, and his eye grievously injured. Nearby, he noticed body parts of the victims lying on the road—a sight that will haunt him forever.
The two friends are now recovering from both physical injuries and emotional trauma, thankful to be alive but forever changed by what they witnessed.
