Ghaziabad Sisters’ Deaths: From Game Rumours to a Troubling Trail of Debt, Marriages and Past Tragedies
Speculations spread rapidly when three Gaziabad sisters fell to their death from the ninth floor of a residential building a few days ago.
Initial whispers suggested the girls may have been influenced by a task-based Korean online game, prompting their devastated father to even appeal for a ban on such platforms.
However, as investigators dug deeper, a far more complex and disturbing picture began to emerge—marked by financial distress, multiple marriages, inconsistent accounts, and a family history touched by unexplained deaths.
The girls’ father, Chetan Kumar, lives in Bharat City Society with his three wives—Sujata, Heena, and Tina. According to statements given to the police, he has a daughter and a mentally challenged son with Sujata.
With Heena, who is Sujata’s sister, he has two daughters. It was the daughters of Sujata and Heena who allegedly jumped from the ninth floor.
His third wife, Tina, aged 22, has a three-year-old daughter with him.
“She was a Muslim who agreed to convert to Hinduism for the marriage. The other two wives have said they consented to the third marriage, which took place in 2023,” said Atul Kumar Singh.
Conflicting Marriage Timelines
Police, however, say there are glaring inconsistencies in Chetan’s account of his marriages.
Earlier, he had told investigators that he married Sujata in 2010 and Heena in 2013, claiming that his second marriage was due to Sujata’s inability to conceive.
This assertion raised immediate doubts, as his eldest daughter with Sujata is reportedly 16 years old.
He had also initially claimed that Tina was not his wife but his sister-in-law, a statement he later contradicted.
Investigators are now attempting to verify marriage timelines through documentation, but this has proven challenging.
“Both Sujata and Heena are uneducated. They cannot recall their wedding dates and say they do not know any official marriage documents,” Singh said.
Family’s Living Conditions Raise Questions
Another aspect that caught the police’s attention was the family’s living arrangement. Despite residing in a three-bedroom flat, all family members reportedly slept in a single room.
When questioned about how no one noticed the three girls leaving the room late at night, Singh said there was nothing out of the ordinary.
“It was part of their daily routine. The girls would stay awake till late, talking, playing games, and always remaining together. No one noticed anything suspicious that night,” he explained.
The girls had dropped out of school several years ago, following Chetan’s financial collapse, which left the family struggling to survive.
Missing Mobile Phones and Mounting Debt
Investigators are also focusing on the disappearance of the girls’ mobile phones.
The sisters had two phones between them, both of which are now missing. Police said Chetan, burdened by debt, sold one phone six months ago and the second just 15 days before the incident.
“We are trying to trace both phones. Usually, once phones are sold, they are formatted.
After that, the chances of retrieving data are extremely slim, but we are tracking them through their IMEI numbers,” Singh said.
A Past Death Re-Emerges
As police scrutinise Chetan’s past, another death in the family has resurfaced—one that had previously been dismissed as an accident.
Speaking to the media, Vinod Kumar, the father of Sujata and Heena, recalled a tragic incident from six to seven years ago.
On the birthday of Chetan’s eldest daughter, one of Vinod’s daughters had visited Chetan’s home.
She allegedly slipped while removing clothes from a balcony and fell to her death from the third floor. The girl was around 16 years old at the time.
No police complaint was filed then.
As investigators piece together the family’s history, police say the focus has shifted from online game theories to deeper issues of financial ruin, family dynamics, and unresolved questions surrounding multiple deaths.
