As Hamidia Girls’ Degree College gracefully stepped into its Golden Jubilee year, the institution didn’t just celebrate its five decades of academic excellence—it reaffirmed its deep-rooted commitment to the ideals of learning, growth, and sustainability through a heartfelt initiative titled “Green Tribute to Sir Syed.”
Guided by Dr. Nuzhat Fatima, the event was a seamless blend of historical homage and environmental consciousness, reflecting how the college continues to evolve with time while staying true to its core values.
Over the past fifty years, Hamidia Girls’ Degree College has nurtured countless young minds, growing from a modest educational venture into a respected center of learning and empowerment for women.
The Green Tribute served as a living metaphor for this steady progress — a campus that has not only expanded in infrastructure and reputation but also in purpose and vision.
The highlight of the celebration was a symbolic plantation drive where 50 saplings were planted, each representing a milestone in the institution’s golden journey.
These saplings, carefully selected native species, were prepared and planted by students of the Basics of Gardening skill course under Dr. Fatima’s mentorship. Students from multiple departments joined in enthusiastically, demonstrating how education and ecology can flourish together.
The event also featured a Green Pledge Ceremony, where students vowed to adopt sustainable habits, conserve nature, and become responsible stewards of the environment.
The act of pledging, set amidst the freshly planted saplings, served as a poignant reminder that the college’s growth mirrors that of a thriving garden—rooted in purpose, nourished by effort, and blossoming through collective care.
Principal Prof. Naseha Usmani lauded the students’ participation and spirit, emphasizing that their enthusiasm reflected the enduring values envisioned by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan—the founder of the Aligarh Movement and a pioneer of modern education in India.
Your dedication, resilience, and commitment to knowledge are the true tribute to Sir Syed’s dream,” she said. “Let your education be not just a pursuit of degrees, but a lifelong journey of enlightenment and service.”
During the Sir Syed Day celebrations, Dr. Nuzhat Fatima delivered an inspiring address, beautifully comparing the process of education to the art of gardening.
She explained that students are like seeds—full of promise and potential—while teachers are gardeners who cultivate their growth with patience, knowledge, and care.
Just as a garden flourishes with sunlight and attention,” she reflected, “so does the human mind when nurtured with curiosity, compassion, and guidance.”
Her words resonated deeply, capturing the essence of Sir Syed’s holistic vision of education—one that combines intellectual growth with moral and emotional development.
As the golden jubilee celebrations unfolded under the shade of newly planted trees, Hamidia Girls’ Degree College stood as a living testament to five decades of perseverance, progress, and purpose.
The “Green Tribute to Sir Syed” was not just an event—it was a symbol of how the institution’s reputation has blossomed over time, rooted firmly in the values of learning, service, and sustainability.
