Hamas Commandar Killed In Gaza Claims Israel
The Israeli military on Friday confirmed the killing of a high-ranking Hamas commander in Gaza, marking yet another escalation in a war that has relentlessly consumed lives and devastated the enclave for nearly two years.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Sim Mahmoud Yusuf Abu Alkhir, Deputy Head of Military Intelligence in Hamas’ Bureij Battalion, was eliminated in a targeted airstrike in northern Gaza.
The IDF stated that Alkhir played a central role in planning and executing attacks against Israeli soldiers. The strike, carried out by the 99th Division’s 990th Reserve Artillery Regiment, was described as “precise” and undertaken after measures were allegedly taken to minimize civilian casualties.
Alongside Alkhir, the IDF reported that over ten other Hamas operatives were killed, and more than 20 military infrastructure sites dismantled.
Israeli forces have intensified their ground operations as well. In Gaza City, troops are pushing deeper into urban areas, particularly Sheikh Radwan and Tel Al-Hawa, neighborhoods from where they aim to advance toward the central and western parts of the city.
These areas are heavily populated with displaced civilians, many of whom have already fled once before. Meanwhile, in Khan Yunis and Rafah, Israeli soldiers continue counterterror operations, insisting their objective remains the destruction of Hamas’ military infrastructure.
The scale of displacement has reached catastrophic proportions. The IDF estimates that since early September, nearly 350,000 residents have fled Gaza City, though approximately 600,000 civilians remain trapped inside.
In an effort to force civilians southward, Israeli aircraft dropped leaflets across Gaza City this week, urging residents to use the reopened Salah al-Din road to escape. But for many families, fleeing south only means facing more bombings, overcrowded shelters, hunger, and no certainty of survival.
Behind these announcements of “precision strikes” and “military gains” lies the staggering human toll. Gaza’s Health Ministry reported that 33 Palestinians were killed in the last 24 hours alone.
Since the war erupted almost two years ago, more than 65,000 Palestinians have lost their lives, a figure that includes thousands of children. Gaza, once a bustling strip of land with markets, schools, and families trying to live normal lives, now lies in ruins — most of its buildings reduced to rubble, its infrastructure shattered, and its people gripped by hunger, disease, and even famine.
International appeals to end the violence have poured in repeatedly over the past months. World leaders, humanitarian organizations, and mediators have called for restraint, ceasefires, and negotiations.
Yet, Israel’s leadership has remained unyielding, driven by its vow to dismantle Hamas completely. Israeli officials argue that the extent of Gaza’s hunger and destruction is “exaggerated” and that Hamas alone holds the key to peace.
“Hamas could end the war at once,” Israeli authorities maintain, “if it surrendered, released all hostages, laid down its arms, and dissolved itself.”
Hamas, however, stands firm on its conditions: it will not surrender or disarm unless a sovereign Palestinian state is recognized and established.
This deep-rooted clash — one side demanding complete eradication of an enemy, the other demanding political freedom and nationhood — has left the region locked in a cycle of violence, with ordinary people paying the ultimate price.
For Israel, the trauma of Hamas’ attacks and the long-standing conflict has fueled an anger so consuming that international calls for peace often fall on deaf ears. To Israel’s leadership, pleas for restraint are viewed as attempts to deny its right to self-defense.
For Palestinians, meanwhile, every day of this war brings new graves, new ruins, and a growing sense of abandonment by a world unable to halt Israel’s relentless military campaign.
The conflict now stands at a tragic stalemate — one where diplomacy has repeatedly failed, suffering only multiplies, and both sides remain entrenched in demands that appear irreconcilable.
As Gaza’s skies thunder with airstrikes and its streets echo with cries of despair, the global community is left confronting the painful reality: the war grinds on because the underlying wounds of history, identity, and sovereignty remain unresolved.
