High-Speed Jaguar Crash in Prayagraj Mirrors Pune Porsche and Mumbai Hit-and-Run Cases: Public Fury Forces Police to Act

A horrifying accident in Prayagraj on Sunday evening has once again exposed the nexus of privilege, power, and delayed justice.

A speeding Jaguar car, allegedly driven by Rachit Madhyan, son of a well-known businessman, mowed down people in a bustling Diwali market in Rajrooppur, killing one and injuring at least four others — some critically.

Eyewitnesses say the luxury car, allegedly being driven at around 100 km/h, lost control, ramming into two cars, two motorcycles, and a scooter before ploughing through the crowd.

The deceased, Pradeep Patel, an electrician, was run over while returning home. His post-mortem was conducted on Monday.

What followed bore an uncanny resemblance to the Pune Porsche crash earlier this year and the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, both involving privileged youths behind the wheel of high-end vehicles.

In each case, public outrage, viral videos, and intense media pressure forced the police to act after initial hesitation.

Delay and Dissonance in Police Action

Despite clear videos and multiple eyewitness accounts identifying Rachit Madhyan at the scene, the Dhoomanganj police initially filed an FIR against an “unknown driver.”

It was only after public anger surged — and locals confronted officers with video proof — that his name was formally included.

Witnesses said Rachit was found in the driver’s seat, visibly dazed, and allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Yet police delayed sending his blood sample for testing.

Only after massive outrage did they collect the sample and send it for forensic analysis. The report is still awaited.

Police officials later claimed they could not identify the driver amid the crowd, an explanation citizens dismissed as hollow. Eyewitness videos clearly show the accused being extracted from the Jaguar’s seat and placed into an ambulance.

The Man Behind the Wheel

Rachit Madhyan hails from one of Prayagraj’s most prominent business families. His father, Vasudev Madhyan, and uncle, Inder Madhyan, run the well-known Kamdhenu Sweets, a household name in the city.

He is also the son-in-law of Dr. M.K. Madnani, a renowned medical practitioner and hospital owner. Rachit’s wife, Dr. Amrita Madnani, is a dermatologist with her own clinic in Prayagraj.

An LLB graduate and captain of the Elgin Club Cricket Team, Rachit was reportedly returning from a match when the tragedy struck.

Sources said his team had lost by 56 runs, and he appeared visibly upset after not getting a chance to bat.

The crash occurred around 3:45 PM, barely 20 minutes after he left the ground.

Eyewitness Accounts: “Everything Ended in Seconds”

Eyewitnesses describe scenes of chaos and horror. The Jaguar came at a terrifying speed, around 100 km/h,” said a shopkeeper in the area.

“It first hit a cutlet stall, injuring the shopkeeper and his son, then mowed down several people.”

Another witness, Prashan, who owns a roadside stall, recounted: I was arranging Diwali idols when suddenly the car rammed into my shop.

Everything ended in moments — idols shattered, people screamed, and the road was filled with debris.”

A relative of one of the injured, said When I reached the spot, my uncle and brother were lying in a pool of blood. The car had crushed bikes, a scooter, and people alike.”

Privilege vs. Justice: The Pattern Repeats

This incident echoes the Pune Porsche case, where a 17-year-old business magnate’s son killed two engineers, and the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run, where a builder’s son fatally struck a woman.

In both, police were initially reluctant to name or arrest the accused — until viral videos and social media outrage left them with no choice.

The Prayagraj tragedy follows the same pattern — delay in FIR, attempts to shield the accused, and eventual action only after massive public backlash.

As Prayagraj mourns Pradeep Patel, questions loom large:
How many more lives must be lost before India’s justice system stops bending before wealth and influence?
