Shyam Benegal, a key figure in the Indian parallel cinema movement, passed away on December 23 at the age of 90.
The filmmaker’s funeral took place at the Shivaji Park Electric Crematorium in Mumbai,
December 24. Known for his groundbreaking work, Benegal’s death marks the end of an era for Indian cinema, with his influence on the industry continuing to resonate through his timeless films.
His contributions to Indian cinema were both pioneering and profound, shaping narratives that continue to inspire filmmakers and audiences alike.
A new post shared by a paparazzo account on Instagram shows the mortal remains of Shyam Benegal being brought to Shivaji Park by his grieving family.
Naseeruddin Shah, an incredible actor who worked in several of Benegal’s films, was seen giving an emotional farewell to the filmmaker.
Many Bollywood celebrities are expected to attend the funeral, paying their respects to the pioneering filmmaker whose contributions to Indian cinema have left an indelible mark.
He said, “It is impossible to describe in a few words, what Shyam meant to me. I wonder what I would have become if he hadn’t had faith in me.”
