India Reaches for the Stars: PM Modi Inaugurates Skyroot’s Infinity Campus, Unveils Vikram-I, Marking a Giant Leap in Space Technology
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday dedicated Skyroot Aerospace’s newly built Infinity Campus to the nation via video conferencing, while unveiling the company’s first orbital launch vehicle — Vikram-I, a powerful rocket designed to place satellites into orbit, symbolising India’s accelerating journey to become a global space leader.
Hailing the remarkable transformation in India’s space sector, PM Modi said that the country is currently witnessing unprecedented opportunities and innovation, led by energetic private participation and the visionary spirit of young Indian innovators.
Today, the private sector is taking a major leap in India’s space ecosystem. Skyroot’s Infinity Campus reflects India’s new thinking, innovation, and youth power,” he declared, praising the risk-taking ability and entrepreneurship of Indian youth that is pushing national capabilities to new heights.
He highlighted that over 300 space startups are now shaping India’s space future — many of them born in small rooms with limited resources, powered solely by passion and determination.
Small teams, limited tools, but a limitless resolve to rise,” the Prime Minister said.
PM Modi commended the growing strength of India’s young engineers, designers, coders, and scientists, who are developing technologies once thought impossible and turning India into a hub of futuristic innovation.
The newly inaugurated state-of-the-art Infinity Campus, spread across nearly 200,000 square feet, is designed for the end-to-end building of launch vehicles — from design and integration to testing — and holds the capacity to manufacture one orbital rocket every month.
Skyroot Aerospace, founded by IIT alumni and former ISRO scientists Pawan Chandana and Bharath Daka, has rapidly become India’s most celebrated private space enterprise.
The company created history in November 2022 by launching Vikram-S, the nation’s first privately developed sub-orbital rocket.
What is Vikram 1?
Named after Dr Vikram Sarabhai, the father of India’s space programme, Vikram 1 is Skyroot’s first orbital launch vehicle.
Built with an all-carbon-fibre body, it is a multi-stage rocket capable of placing up to 300 kg payloads into low-earth orbit and can deploy multiple satellites at once.
The vehicle features advanced 3D-printed liquid engines and represents the next phase of India’s ambition to democratise and commercialise space access.
With cutting-edge private innovation, bold government support, and a rapidly growing ecosystem of startups, India is scripting a new chapter in global space leadership — confident, capable, and future-ready.
