Indian Air Force Para Jump Instructor Succumbs to Injuries Following Parachute Malfunction During Para Jump in Agra

In a tragic incident that has left the Indian Air Force and the nation in mourning, a highly skilled and experienced para jump instructor from the prestigious Akash Ganga Skydiving Team of the Indian Air Force (IAF) lost his life following a fatal parachuting accident that occurred during a scheduled demonstration jump, also known as a “demo drop,” in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, on the morning of Saturday.

The deceased, identified as Warrant Officer Ramkumar Tiwari, aged 41, was undertaking a high-altitude jump as part of a demonstration display organized by the IAF’s elite skydiving unit.

The event took place near the Agra Air Force Station, and the jump was part of an official demonstration intended to showcase the capabilities and skills of the IAF’s airborne personnel.

According to preliminary information provided by local law enforcement authorities and corroborated by Indian Air Force officials, Warrant Officer Tiwari exited a helicopter at approximately 9:30 AM on Saturday as part of the planned aerial maneuver.

However, shortly after the jump, a technical malfunction occurred, preventing his parachute from deploying properly within the critical timeframe required to ensure a safe descent.

Due to the parachute’s failure to open on time, Warrant Officer Tiwari experienced a rapid and uncontrolled fall, resulting in severe and life-threatening injuries upon impact with the ground.

Despite the swift response from fellow personnel and immediate evacuation to a nearby medical facility, he was unable to recover from the injuries he sustained during the accident.

Sources from within the defense establishment confirmed that he was rushed to a military hospital for emergency medical treatment.

Tragically, despite the best efforts of the attending medical staff, Warrant Officer Tiwari succumbed to his injuries. The time of death was officially confirmed later in the day.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vinayak Bhosale, who is overseeing the matter from the local law enforcement side, stated, “Information regarding the unfortunate demise of the Indian Air Force personnel was received from the Military Hospital around noon.

Following standard procedures, the Sadar Police Station has taken cognizance of the matter and has sent the body for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause and nature of death.”

The Indian Air Force, in an official statement released via its social media platform X (formerly Twitter), expressed deep sorrow over the untimely loss of one of its most dedicated servicemen.

The post read, “A Para Jump Instructor from the IAF’s Akash Ganga Skydiving Team succumbed to injuries sustained during a Demo Drop at Agra today.

The IAF deeply mourns the loss and extends heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, standing firmly with them in this hour of grief.”

The Akash Ganga Skydiving Team, to which Warrant Officer Tiwari belonged, is one of the Indian Air Force’s most renowned and elite units, specializing in aerial demonstrations and precision skydiving.

The team, often seen at air shows, ceremonial events, and national celebrations, symbolizes excellence in airborne skills and is composed of some of the most experienced and rigorously trained paratroopers in the country.
