New Delhi: India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has acknowledged the severe inconvenience caused to passengers due to the cancellation of flights between 3 and 5 December 2025 and has announced a compensation package to help those affected.

The airline stated on Thursday that passengers who experienced significant disruption during this period will be offered travel vouchers worth ₹10,000, which can be redeemed on future IndiGo flights and are valid for 12 months.

IndiGo also noted that, under current government regulations, passengers whose flights were cancelled within 24 hours of departure are entitled to compensation ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 based on the flight’s block time.

These regulatory payouts are in addition to the ₹10,000 travel voucher offered by the airline.

The airline has begun processing refunds for all cancelled flights, including those booked through travel partners. Affected passengers can reach out for assistance by emailing customer.experience@goindigo.in for details on refunds and compensation.

Flight Disruptions: Scale and Impact

IndiGo’s flight operations were severely disrupted in early December, marking one of the most significant operational crises in the airline’s history.

According to aviation reports, the airline cancelled between 3,400 and 4,000 flights nationwide as of early December, stranding tens of thousands of passengers and causing widespread travel chaos.

These cancellations were linked to challenges in adjusting to new pilot rest and duty regulations, which came into effect at the beginning of November, affecting crew scheduling and flight rosters.

The disruption peaked around 5 December 2025, with some days seeing cancellations of well over 1,000 flights, and the crisis prompted intense scrutiny from India’s aviation regulator.

Regulatory Involvement and Operational Stabilization

India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has taken firm action in response to the crisis, including directing IndiGo to reduce its scheduled flights as part of stabilization efforts.

Government agencies continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure passenger safety and service reliability.

IndiGo has also stated that it is working to restore normal operations across its network, with gradual increases in flights and improved on-time performance reported in recent days.

Passengers affected by the cancellations are advised to check their flight status, pursue refunds where applicable, and make use of the ₹10,000 voucher offer to plan future travel.

The airline has reiterated its commitment to resolving customer issues and returning services to full normalcy.
