Kidnapped Seven-Year-Old Rescued Overnight in Prayagraj; Accused Arrested After Swift Police Operation

Prayagraj: A case of child abduction created panic in the Sarai Inayat police station area of Prayagraj after a seven-year-old boy was allegedly kidnapped on Wednesday.

The incident triggered an immediate response from the police after the information about the abduction was broadcast over the police control room wireless network late in the evening.

Acting on instructions from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Gangangar), the Sarai Inayat police launched an urgent search operation and successfully rescued the child the same night from the Kachhwa police station area in neighbouring Mirzapur district.

According to police officials, the incident is linked to a family dispute that began earlier this week.

Sevalal Mushar, a resident of Baraipur village under the Todarpur hamlet in Sarai Inayat, had reported that his adult daughter had gone missing on Monday.

During his search, he learned that a man named Deepak Mushar, a resident of Gyanpur in Bhadohi district, had allegedly eloped with her. Deepak reportedly worked at a brick kiln owned by Ratan Singh in Katwarupur village.

Sevalal had approached Deepak’s family members, demanding that they bring his daughter back.

When his daughter did not return, Sevalal allegedly took matters into his own hands. Police said that on Wednesday afternoon, he abducted seven-year-old Himanshu, the son of Mulchand and the nephew of Deepak.

Later that evening, Mulchand returned to his hut located near the brick kiln and discovered that his son was missing.

Initially, he and his wife Sonam assumed that the boy might have gone somewhere with a tractor or with other workers in the area.

However, when Himanshu did not return home until late evening, Mulchand dialed the emergency helpline number 112 and reported the suspected kidnapping.

During the inquiry, it came to light that Sevalal had taken the child. After receiving the information, DCP Gangangar Kuldeep Gunawat immediately directed the Sarai Inayat police to locate and rescue the boy without delay.

Around 10 pm, the police team, accompanied by the child’s father, conducted a raid at the Mushar settlement in Todarpur.

Sevalal was taken into custody during the operation. Station House Officer Sanjay Gupta said that the accused initially tried to mislead investigators and refused to reveal the child’s location.

However, after sustained questioning, he eventually confessed and disclosed where the boy had been taken.

Based on his information, the police conducted another operation in Bahmalpur village under the Kachhwa police station limits of Mirzapur district.

Around midnight, the police successfully recovered Himanshu from the location.

Investigators said that Sevalal had sent the kidnapped child to his daughter’s in-laws’ village in Bahmalpur along with his nephew Ashish.

A case of kidnapping has now been registered against Sevalal, and further investigation is underway.

Police Feared the Worst

The abduction of a Mushar community child—especially by another member of the same community—had caused serious concern among senior police officials.

Authorities feared that the accused might harm or even kill the child. The anxiety was heightened because the district had recently witnessed two other child abduction incidents, making the police particularly sensitive to such cases.

Officials expressed relief after the safe recovery of the boy.

“Bring Back Our Daughter, Take Back Your Son”

During questioning, Sevalal repeatedly told police that he would return the boy only if his daughter was brought back. He insisted that the child would be handed over once the family of Deepak returned his daughter.

Although the kidnapped child has now been rescued safely, the police are still searching for Deepak as well as Sevalal’s daughter, whose whereabouts remain unknown.
