Lucknow Horror: Teen Held in Father’s Killing, Investigation Still Unfolding

A chilling incident from Lucknow’s Ashiyana locality has sent shockwaves through the city, where a 19-year-old youth has been arrested in connection with the death of his father.

As of now, crucial aspects of the case remain under active police investigation.

According to officials, the accused, Akshat Pratap Singh, and his father, Manvendra Singh (45), were allegedly engaged in a prolonged argument in the early hours of Saturday.

The confrontation, which reportedly began around 1 am, reportedly intensified for nearly two hours.

During questioning, the teenager allegedly told police that his father retrieved a licensed rifle from a cupboard and pointed it at him before placing it aside.

Claiming he lost control in the heat of the moment, the youth allegedly picked up the firearm and discharged a shot that struck his father in the head, resulting in his immediate death.

The case took a grim turn on Monday when neighbours reported a foul odour emanating from the three-storey residence.

Upon entering the premises, police said they recovered the dismembered torso of the deceased from a drum kept on the ground floor, with limbs missing.

Investigators allege that in an attempt to hide the crime, the accused transported the body from the upper floor to the ground level before cutting it into pieces and disposing of certain parts.

A saw believed to have been used in the dismemberment was reportedly purchased after the shooting, suggesting the alleged concealment effort followed the fatal incident.

Police have indicated that, based on preliminary findings, the killing does not appear to have been planned.

Officials have pointed to academic stress as a possible trigger.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikrant Vir earlier stated that the accused claimed he had been under sustained pressure from his father to prepare for competitive examinations, particularly the NEET medical entrance test.

The Station House Officer of Ashiyana police station echoed similar observations during initial briefings.

Police sources further revealed that the accused’s younger sister was present in another room at the time of the incident.

The youth allegedly informed her of the occurrence and is said to have issued threats, after which she neither alerted authorities nor family members and reportedly attended school the next day for an examination.

Manvendra Singh, who operated a pathology centre, had lost his wife in 2017. His son was pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree.

Investigators noted that while the accused had performed well academically in earlier years, his results reportedly declined after Class X.

Police are also examining claims that family tensions escalated following the mother’s death, with the father closely supervising the children’s studies.

In a development that raised suspicion, police said the accused had approached the station hours after the alleged crime to file a missing person’s complaint, stating that his father had left for work and not returned.

Officers became wary when he allegedly hesitated to provide a photograph and appeared evasive during questioning.

The deceased’s brother, who resides on the ground floor of the same building, was reportedly away in his native village at the time of the incident.

On Wednesday, the accused was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody.

The firearm involved was registered in the father’s name. Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report, and senior officers have stated that several questions remain unanswered as investigators continue to piece together the sequence of events.

As the probe progresses, police have emphasised that conclusions will depend on forensic findings and further statements, including a detailed account from the minor sister.
