Midnight Run Over Mobile Phone Scolding Ends With Dramatic Police Search; Teen Located 120 km Away in Ahmedabad.
The Vadodara City Police launched a quick and intense search operation after anxious parents reported their 13-year-old daughter missing shortly after midnight.
The young girl had reportedly stormed out of the house following a dispute with her family over excessive mobile phone use.
For officers assigned to Zone 1 and personnel at the Chhani Police Station, the distress call triggered an urgent response that ultimately culminated in a relief-filled reunion nearly 120 kilometres away in Ahmedabad.
Argument Over Phone Leads to Sudden Departure
According to police officials, the teenager—who studies in Class 6 at a private school in Vadodara—had been frequently quarrelling with her parents regarding her prolonged use of a smartphone.
On Tuesday evening, the disagreement escalated once again when her parents reprimanded her and warned that the device would soon be taken away.
Upset by the confrontation and feeling angry, the girl quietly slipped out of the house in the middle of the night. Before leaving, she packed a small bag containing a few clothes and carried her mobile phone along with her.
When the family discovered she was missing, they immediately contacted the police for assistance.
Police Launch Tracking Operation
Investigators began tracing the girl’s movements using digital tracking and technical surveillance tools. Initial signals from her phone suggested that she had crossed Dena Bridge, followed by Air Force Bridge, before reaching the Karjan area, leading officers to believe she was travelling toward Karjan.
Police promptly alerted authorities at the Karjan toll plaza and informed the local police station to remain vigilant.
However, the situation soon became more complicated when the phone’s location abruptly shifted, indicating that she had taken the expressway route heading toward Ahmedabad instead.
“This meant that the minor was moving in the opposite direction from where we initially believed she was headed,” explained Police Inspector R. L. Prajapati.
Phone Switched On and Off
The search effort became more challenging as the girl repeatedly turned her phone on and off, making it harder for investigators to pinpoint her exact position.
Despite these obstacles, the police technical team continued monitoring the device whenever it briefly reconnected to the network.
By around 4 a.m. on Wednesday, tracking signals indicated that the teenager had reached the outskirts of Ahmedabad.
Upon receiving this update, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 1), J. M. Chavda, directed officers from Chhani police station to immediately travel to Ahmedabad along with the girl’s parents.
Coordination With Ahmedabad Police
The Vadodara police simultaneously alerted the local police station in Ahmedabad and informed authorities at the toll checkpoint on the Ahmedabad side of the expressway to assist in the search.
Acting on the instructions of DCP Chavda, a police team—accompanied by the worried parents—left for Ahmedabad to locate the missing girl.
Teen Found Near Busy Bus Stop
As investigators continued monitoring the mobile phone’s signal, the device was finally traced to the crowded CTM bus stand area in Ahmedabad on Wednesday morning.
With assistance from the local police, officers managed to locate the girl safely in the bustling neighbourhood. Shortly afterwards, her parents—who had rushed to the city—reached the location.
The emotional reunion between the parents and their daughter brought visible relief to everyone involved.
“They were overwhelmed with emotion when they saw each other and broke down,” Inspector Prajapati said.
Counselling Before Returning Home
The teenager and her family were subsequently escorted back to Vadodara by the police team. Before allowing the family to leave, officers conducted a preliminary counselling session with both the child and her parents.
DCP Chavda noted that such incidents—where adolescents leave home following disputes—are becoming increasingly common due to growing communication gaps between parents and children.
Message for Parents
Speaking about the case, the senior officer emphasised the importance of stronger emotional bonds within families.
“In many households today, parents and children are drifting apart emotionally. Mobile phones often dominate family life, and parents themselves are frequently absorbed in screens, missing early signs that their children may be distressed,” Chavda said.
He further advised families to spend more time together in outdoor activities and screen-free interactions, which help strengthen relationships and build trust between parents and children.
Officials added that a detailed counselling session involving both the girl and her family will be conducted later once they have had adequate rest.
The dramatic overnight search thus ended safely—highlighting both the effectiveness of coordinated policing and the growing challenges families face in the digital age.
