Modi Inaugurates Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat Rapid Rail, Slams Congress Over AI Summit Protest

Meerut: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the country’s fastest metro service, the Meerut Metro, along with the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail.

Addressing a large public gathering on the occasion, the Prime Minister launched a sharp attack on the Congress party over its protest at the recent AI Summit.

Referring to reports of Congress leaders staging a protest by stripping during the summit, Modi said the entire nation was aware of what he described as the party’s “naked politics.”

He alleged that Congress had embarrassed the country before foreign guests by indulging in what he termed “dirty and shameless politics.”

“If you are already exposed, what was the need to remove your clothes?” he remarked, taking a pointed dig at the opposition.

The Prime Minister further stated that the incident demonstrated how the country’s oldest political party had become a burden on the nation.

He accused Congress of being ideologically bankrupt and impoverished, adding that its policies and conduct were being widely criticised.

Modi also expressed disappointment that Congress leaders were, in his words, applauding those who insulted the country.

Focus on Development in Western Uttar Pradesh

Shifting focus to governance and development, the Prime Minister said that for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), national progress and the development of Uttar Pradesh remain paramount.

He urged the public to recall the state of affairs a decade ago, when Uttar Pradesh was often discussed for communal riots in Meerut, criminal gangs operating in western UP, poor roads, frequent power cuts, and overall backwardness.

He alleged that during the Samajwadi Party’s rule, films were made on crime in western Uttar Pradesh, whereas today the state is recognised for development initiatives.

According to Modi, Uttar Pradesh is now known for projects such as the BrahMos missile facility, expanding airport infrastructure, mobile manufacturing, and a rising influx of tourists.

During his journey from Shatabdinagar to Meerut South, the Prime Minister interacted with students, entrepreneurs, and children aboard the Meerut Metro.

First-of-its-Kind Shared Track System

The newly inaugurated services mark a first for the country, as both the semi-high-speed Rapid Rail and the Metro will operate on the same track.

The Meerut Metro, with a top speed of 120 km per hour, is being described as the fastest metro service in India. The Rapid Rail will operate at speeds of up to 160 km per hour.

Modi also contrasted the expansion of metro networks under different governments, stating that during the Congress-led government, metro services operated in only five cities.

In comparison, he said, metro rail services are now running in more than 25 cities under the BJP government. He added that India today boasts the world’s third-largest metro network.
