Modi Praises RSS on Its Centenary, Releases Commemorative Coin and Postal Stamp
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday lauded the contribution of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on the occasion of its centenary, emphasizing that despite facing restrictions, conspiracies, and false allegations over the last 100 years, the organization never displayed bitterness.
He said the Sangh has consistently worked on the principle of “Nation First.”
Addressing the RSS centenary celebrations, Modi remarked that India’s soul has always been rooted in the principle of unity in diversity.
If this principle is ever compromised, the strength of the nation would weaken. Referring to the upcoming Vijayadashami festival, he noted that the timing of the Sangh’s foundation was no coincidence, as the festival itself symbolizes the eternal values of Indian culture.
“Multiple Attempts Were Made to Crush the RSS”
The Prime Minister recalled how repeated attempts were made to suppress the Sangh’s spirit through false accusations and fabricated cases.
Citing the ban imposed on the RSS following Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination, Modi said that despite enduring false cases and prohibitions, the Sangh never reacted with animosity. He noted that even then, RSS chief Madhav Golwalkar was imprisoned under false charges.
100 Rupees Commemorative Coin and Special Postal Stamp Released
Marking 100 years of RSS’s establishment, Modi unveiled a special postal stamp and a commemorative ₹100 coin.
The coin, he said, carries the national emblem on one side and an image of Bharat Mata seated on a lion on the other, with swayamsevaks bowing in devotion and service before her.
For the first time in history, an image of Bharat Mata has been inscribed on Indian currency—an event Modi described as a moment of immense pride and historical importance.
RSS Fought Against British Atrocities
Modi emphasized that the RSS reached every corner of the nation to foster harmony and spread the message of inclusivity.
He recalled that RSS not only fought against British atrocities but also sheltered freedom fighters during the struggle. Its founder, Dr. Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, was imprisoned several times during the freedom movement.
“Demographic Manipulation a Bigger Threat Than Infiltration”
The Prime Minister warned that demographic manipulation poses a bigger challenge to India’s social harmony than infiltration.
He stressed that demographic changes are weakening social equality and that this issue is directly tied to the nation’s internal security and future. He underlined that his announcement of a demographic mission was aimed at addressing these pressing challenges.
“RSS’s Journey of 100 Years Built on People’s Affection and Support”
New Delhi, Agency.
RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale stated that despite facing decades of opposition, the Sangh has emerged as the world’s largest volunteer organization, thanks to the affection and trust of the people.
He said it was a matter of pride for swayamsevaks and patriots that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the government chose to issue a commemorative coin and stamp on this historic occasion.
The centenary celebrations witnessed the participation of RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, and Union Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
“RSS Focused on National Upliftment, Not Political Power”
Nagpur, Agency.
Senior RSS leader Sunil Ambekar on Wednesday highlighted the organization’s core philosophy of inclusion and forgiveness. He reiterated that the Sangh’s focus has never been political power but national upliftment.
Ambekar, the All-India Head of Publicity for RSS, said that the century-old organization was never founded with any desire for awards or recognition.
Its progress, he noted, has always been defined by its deep social commitment and its guiding principle of “Forget and Forgive” after the Emergency era. He said that the centenary journey of the RSS reflects public support and trust.
Welcoming the release of the commemorative postal stamp, Ambekar further remarked that it was a matter of pride that leaders like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi, with an RSS background, had risen to the office of Prime Minister.
However, he emphasized once again that the Sangh’s mission remains focused not on political dominance but on national progress.
He stressed that for holistic development, political power alone is not sufficient, as governments have their own duties and limitations. A strong society requires collective awareness and active participation.
The Sangh’s primary mission, he underlined, is to keep every individual in society actively engaged in the service of nation-building.
With growing public support and the BJP’s expanding mandate, Ambekar asserted that RSS is now poised to move forward with even greater momentum. He said people increasingly want to associate with the Sangh in the service of the nation.
