Modi Signals New Momentum in Tamil Nadu, Launches NDA Campaign with Development-Focused Pitch
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday struck an upbeat and confident note in Tamil Nadu, asserting that the state was poised for a new chapter of governance driven by development, transparency, and effective delivery of welfare.
Addressing a massive public gathering at Maduranthakam in Chengalpattu district, the Prime Minister said the mood on the ground reflected a strong desire for change and better governance.
Speaking before thousands of supporters, Mr Modi criticised the performance of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government, alleging that its tenure had fallen short of public expectations.
He described the regime as being weighed down by corruption, criminal influence, and dynastic politics, while stressing that ordinary citizens—especially youth, farmers, women, and small entrepreneurs—deserved a government focused squarely on their aspirations.
Highlighting the Centre’s contribution to Tamil Nadu’s progress over the past decade, the Prime Minister said that nearly ₹11 lakh crore had been allocated for the state’s development during the last 11 years.
He pointed to a sevenfold increase in rail infrastructure investment, the issuance of around 50,000 Kisan Credit Cards, six crore Mudra loans supporting small entrepreneurs, and extensive direct benefit transfers that had strengthened grassroots welfare delivery.
He also noted that close to ₹3 lakh crore had been earmarked for the MSME sector, calling it a backbone of employment and innovation.
Modi emphasised that a “double-engine” government—where the same alliance governs both at the Centre and the state—would accelerate growth through smoother coordination and faster implementation of schemes.
According to him, such alignment would ensure that benefits reach the last mile without delays or leakages, translating policy into visible change on the ground.
The rally also featured addresses by Edappadi K. Palaniswami, AIADMK general secretary and Leader of the Opposition, and former Union Minister Anbumani Ramadoss, underscoring the unity of the National Democratic Alliance as it formally kicked off its Assembly election campaign in the state.
Hours before the Prime Minister’s arrival, Maduranthakam had transformed into a hub of political energy. Nearly 45,000 plastic chairs were arranged in neat rows across a sprawling open ground off the Grand Southern Trunk Road.
Party workers fine-tuned sound systems, rehearsed slogans, and coordinated seating, while police personnel managed traffic and security across highways and junctions. The scale and organisation of the event lent it the air of both a political festival and a well-planned logistical exercise.
With a packed stage, enthusiastic crowds, and a strong emphasis on development and governance, the rally sent a clear signal that the NDA is gearing up for an energetic and determined contest in Tamil Nadu, seeking to convert its organisational show of strength into electoral momentum.
