OpenAI Partners with IITs, IIMs, and Leading Institutions to Mainstream AI Education; India Eyes Global Leadership in AI Adoption

 

New Delhi: At the India AI Impact Summit held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Wednesday, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Minister of State Jitin Prasada, DeepMind Technologies CEO Demis Hassabis, and several other dignitaries participated in high-level discussions on advancing artificial intelligence in India.

In a major announcement, OpenAI revealed partnerships with India’s premier universities and institutions, including the IITs and IIMs, with the objective of integrating artificial intelligence into management, medicine, engineering, and creative education.

In the first phase of this initiative, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) New Delhi, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), UPES, and Pearl Academy have been included.

Raghav Gupta, Head of Education at OpenAI India, emphasized that AI literacy is essential for building a generation prepared to tackle future challenges.

Over One Lakh Students to Benefit

Through this initiative, more than one lakh students, teachers, and staff members will receive support over the next year. The program aims to train them in the correct and responsible use of AI, so they are ready for a technology-driven economy.

Key highlights of the initiative include:

  1. More than one lakh students and educators will receive AI training within one year.
  2. AI tools will be made available across participating colleges.
  3. Students will be trained to use AI in academics, including coding, data analysis, research, case studies, and simulations.
  4. Strong emphasis will be placed on the responsible and ethical use of AI.
  5. Hackathons and industry events will connect students with startups and companies.

India Could Surpass the United States in AI Adoption: Sridhar Vembu

Sridhar Vembu, Co-founder of Zoho Corporation, stated that India could outpace the United States in the rate of AI adoption over the next decade, driven by its young and optimistic population.

Speaking at the AI Impact Conference on Wednesday, Vembu pointed to the widespread adoption of UPI in India as an example, suggesting that AI could similarly achieve mass-scale acceptance.

EU and India Can Build a Strong AI Partnership

New Delhi: Brando Benifei, Member of the European Parliament, said that Europe and India can establish a strong partnership in the AI sector.

He noted that such collaboration would be possible if both sides focus on the real-world use and deployment of AI rather than engaging in a technological arms race.

Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Benifei reiterated that the EU and India have the potential to forge a robust AI partnership.

Drone to Deliver Without Human Intervention

New Delhi: Drone-based delivery services provider Sky Air Mobility demonstrated an end-to-end autonomous commerce delivery system at the AI Summit on Wednesday.

The company stated that the system is fully automated and capable of delivering goods to customers’ homes via drones without any human assistance. As part of this initiative, Sky Air Mobility has partnered with Arrive AI and Otonomy.

Over the past two years, more than 3.6 million deliveries have been completed.
