The Allahabad High Court has sought to know from the central government whether it has any scheme to set up AIIMS-like hospitals in the city or not.

Directing the secretary Ministry of Family Welfare to file his reply affidavit the court has fixed August 1 as the next date of hearing.
The bench of Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta and Justice Manish Kumar Nigam has sought the answers following a PIL filed by the social organization Sahaj Sarthi Foundation and others.
According to the PIL crores of people congregate in the city of Allahabad during the yearly Magh Mela, Kumbh and Mahakumbh.
According to the census carried on in the year 2011, the city has a population of over 59 lakh.
Besides the high court, AG Office, Director of Education, and CDA pension there were a host of important establishments in the city both belonging to the state and central government.
However, despite such importance, the basic health structures in the city are in poor condition.
In fact, the health services in this city are themselves sick. People have to run from pillar to post to get various medical tests done. These private pathologies and test centres extract huge sums from patients for every test.
The lab and sample testing centre at the Swarup Rani Nehru Hospital, Tej Bahadur Sapru Hospital is not only I’ll be equipped but it has no standards.
The results of tests carried out here do not match with outside tests.
The hospital buildings are in a poor shape.
The city fulfills the standard set by ‘Pradhanmantri Swasth Suraksha Yojna’.
Under these conditions, the central government should take steps to set up an AIIMS in this city which has one of the largest populations in the state.
Besides, patients from neighbouring districts like Jaunpur, Pratapgarh, Fatehpur Kaushambi and even people from the neighbouring state of Madhya Pradesh flock to the city for various types of ailments.
